New wine tasting at Dallas Farmers Market spotlights North TX vineyards
Local food is the trademark of the Dallas Farmers Market — and that includes wine, which will be spotlighted in a tasting event on October 28, featuring 10 wineries from across North Texas.
The Texas Harvest Wine Tasting will bring together the best wineries with vintners on hand to pour your glass for you, if that's what you crave. Selections will include Rosie the Riveter, a rose from Hidden Hangar Winery that just won a State Fair of Texas Blue Ribbon.
Beyond the obvious joys of drinking wine, Market spokesperson Savannah Nordstrom says their goal is to emphasize the connection between farmers markets and wine, both having a foundation in agriculture.
"Texas wine culture is flourishing and producing wines that exceed all expectations with our versatile soils and climates," Nordstrom says. "Grape harvests in North Texas have just concluded with beautiful results. Now is the time for the artistry of wine crafting and fermentation."
The market has hosted wine tastings in the past but usually in February, tied to a Valentine's Day theme. This is the first Texas Harvest Wine Tasting that coincides with the end of the Texas grape harvest. Again with the agricultural theme.
And rather than highlighting wineries from across Texas as their February event does, this focuses specifically on wineries in the North Texas Wine region -- "wineries that are an easy day trip away," Nordstrom says.
All wineries in this event are part of the North Texas Wine Association, including Eden Hill Vineyard, which gets a special shout-out since it has a wine tasting room at Dallas Farmers Market, in addition to its vineyard in Celina.
And for the first time, it'll be held in The Shed, under string lights with the Pumpkin Patch still in full swing. (The February event is generally an indoor event.)
The event, which takes place on Friday October 28 from 6-9 pm, gets you 20 samples and a commemorative glass, and is $50 per ticket (receive $5 off with promocode: DFMWINE5). You can purchase tickets online.
