Quesadilla spot opens with late-night hours on Dallas' Henderson Ave
A restaurant that's all about the quesadilla has debuted in Dallas: Called Plomo Quesadillas, it's a fast-casual concept dedicated to quesadillas, and has opened its first Dallas location off Henderson Avenue at 1802 McMillan Ave.
Plomo was founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas, by entrepreneur Omar Kasim, who owned a juice bar near the University of Arkansas, and began doing quesadillas on weekend nights to make some additional money.
He used the kitchen of his Juice Bar to serve quesadillas out the back door to customers roaming Dickson Street, Fayetteville’s entertainment district.
His grab-and-go concept came at the height of the pandemic and grew in popularity. In August 2020, Kasim opened a brick-and-mortar location from which he sold 1,600 quesadillas a night.
There are now two locations in Fayetteville, which serve until 3 am on weekends, making it a popular destination for university students.
The menu features Latin, global, and pop-cultural flavors such as:
- Notorious Queso
- Chorizo Mac & Cheese
- Caribbean-Jerk Chicken Quesadilla
- Spicy steak quesadilla with Spicy Nacho Doritos
A "Make it Dirty" option adds a burria-style crispy layer of cheese on the outside of their quesadilla.
"Whether guests are coming back from a concert or a night out at the bars, Plomo is that after hours spot that you can end at and recap the night over an enjoyable meal," Kasim says in a release.
Henderson Avenue is the concept's first expansion outside of Arkansas.
"A lot of our customers graduate and then move to Dallas for work, so there’s a lot of people that are familiar with our brand," Kasim says. "It also helps that the Arkansas Alumni Bar, Knox St Pub, is directly across the street from us as well." Huh, who knew.
It also doesn't hurt that Henderson Avenue is a big SMU hangout, nor does its location near bars such as High Fives, and for exactly that reason, it's open until 4 am Thursday-Saturday, filling in the "eat-after-the-clubs" go-to left empty when Velvet Taco bailed on Henderson Avenue in early 2023.
