This edition of Dallas dining news has restaurants making their debut, and restaurants saying their goodbyes. There are fun new dishes, limited-edition menus, and a celebrity-themed afternoon tea.
Here's what's happening in Dallas restaurant news:
Riprocks Bar & Grill, a bar and restaurant in Denton, closed after 34 years on May 28. According to a post, rising costs of insurance, food, alcohol, and other expenses contributed to the decision to close.
Peaberry Coffee in Oak Cliff has closed its location at 2446 W. Kiest Blvd. after seven years. The shop was locked out of its location and a GoFundMe has been created to help owner Elijah Salazar find a new space.
HTeaO will open a location in Sachse at 7500 S. State Hwy. 78 on June 7. The chain is also launching a limited time caffeine-free Sweet Cherry Iced Tea available at all locations June 1-July 31.
Black Rock Coffee Bar is opening a location in McKinney at 4001 W. University Dr., at the corner of Highway 380 and South Hardin on Friday, June 6. This is the Oregon chain's second location in McKinney, its 11th in DFW, and its 40th store in Texas.
Pollo Campero, the Guatemalan-born chicken chain, is opening a location at 11717 N. Central Expy. in Dallas — their seventh in the Dallas area, along with Farmers Branch, Irving and Richardson.
Bella Flan, the Cuban bakery in Richardson that is home to what many say is the best Cuban sandwich in DFW, has a new Cuban shredded beef sandwich, featuring slow-cooked Ropa Vieja—a shredded beef stew simmered in tomato sauce with onions, bell peppers, garlic, cumin, and oregano — on Cuban bread, served with fried plantain chips. They've also added a black bean burger with Swiss cheese and garlic-cilantro aioli, topped with haystack fries and served with plantains, for $11.50.
Society Bakery + Tea Room is launching a limited-edition Timo“Tea” Chalamet themed afternoon tea, available June 1 through June 29. The tea is inspired by actor Timothy Chalomet and his on-screen roles with tea sandwiches such as the NYC Pastrami and Golden Ticket Raisin & Feta, scones such as Like a Rolling Scone and Violet’s Blueberry Lemon, plus cakes and brownies. Tea is $85.
Ford’s Garage, the car-themed restaurant in Plano, is launching a "Cruisin’ Along the Coast" menu with seven items including the Highway 101 Black Angus burgere with smoked Gouda, bacon, tomato red onion jam, arugula, and basil aioli; shrimp bowl with battered shrimp tossed in a fiery Boom Boom sauce, cilantro lime rice, Asian slaw and avocado; cheese curbs, crispy cheddar bites with chipotle ranch; and an iced tea with vodka and lemonade. Available through July 7.
Cheba Hut has new Cool Ranch Doritos Not’chos, with cheddar, jalapeños, onions, black olives, hot sauce, and ranch. It's a new version of their Not'chos -- this time with Cool Ranch flavor instead of the Nacho Cheese flavor they use on the original recipe. Not'chos start at $6.49.
Fish City Grill and Half Shells has three new dishes: Peruvian cobia tacos for $16, smoked trout dip for $14, and blackened Texas redfish, gulf shrimp and crab meat butter for $28.
Komodo has partnered with Terry Black’s Barbecue on a new menu item starring Terry Black’s beef rib, Miami Gold BBQ sauce, spicy pickles, and BBQ sauce for $78. It's available not only at the Komodo in Dallas' Deep Ellum but also at the Komodo locations in Miami and Las Vegas
Hawaiian Bros has three new wraps: Molokai Mac Wrap with chicken, mac salad, and rice; Huli Huli Wrap with teriyaki-glazed chicken, pineapple, Romaine, crunchy noodles, and rice; and Pacific Island wrap with Romaine, mandarin oranges, chicken, crunchy noodles, and rice.
Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe has a new watermelon salad with watermelon, pecans, feta, and basil on spinach, for $8. They also have a new peach tea. Available through August 10.
Scout at The Statler has a new happy hour menu with Texas-inspired bites including pretzel sticks and nachos, plus drink specials that include the Uno Strawberry Paloma for $13, Rita de Scout, Summer Old Fashioned, and Blueberry Mojito for $8 each. Plus $5 draft beer, $6 seltzers, $5 wells, $7 calls, and half-price wine by the glass. Happy hour runs weekdays from 4-7 pm.
Waterproof, the rooftop bar at the Statler, has a new happy hour featuring Uno Espresso Martini for $13, plus rotating cocktails including the Mai Tai and Llama’s Choice for $8. Beers are $4-$5, seltzers are $6, and wine by the glass is half price. Small plates include hummus or chips and guacamole for $9. Happy hour runs daily from 3-7 pm.
Sonic has new "sweet topped lemonades" featuring lemonade topped with cold foam in three flavors: classic lemonade, strawberry, and blueberry lavender. They're also bringing back watermelon and lemonberry slushes and introducing cheesy garlic pepperoni bites.
McDonald’s is expanding its late-night hours to midnight nationwide. Exceptions will be McDonald’s in non-traditional locations such as airports and shopping malls.
Shiner has partnered with FC Dallas for a new ¡Órale! beer. It's a light-bodied Mexican lager with two-row barley and agave nectar. The co-branded beer will be served exclusively during FC Dallas matches at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. A 16-ounce can is $12.
