Shipley Do-Nuts to open in McKinney with unheard-of promotion

Doughnuts from Shipley's Do-Nuts
The doughnuts are rolling in to McKinney with the opening of Shipley Do-Nuts, the Houston-based chain known for its doughnuts and kolaches, coming to 3801 Virginia Pkwy., in the Shoppes at Virginia on Saturday, March 1.
Shipley was founded in Houston in 1936, and currently has more than 370 company-owned and franchised restaurants across 13 states. Since 2021, they've been on a bit of a growing spurt that included a new location in North Dallas in 2021.
They offers more than 60 doughnut varieties, including their signature plain glazed, cut in the iconic Shipley hexagon shape with a lighter, fluffier texture; plus filled, iced, and cake donuts, bear claws, and coffee. They're also known for kolaches in varieties that include Bacon, Egg & Cheese, Ham & Cheese and Sausage, Jalapeno & Cheese.
They're also known, though maybe not as well, for their truncated spelling of the word doughnuts — a heinous offense on its own but also for the unspoken permission it has given to others to use the word "donut" as well — and thereby lowering the standard of literacy everywhere.
More recently, they've introduced new items such as their limited-edition warm mini beignets fried and dusted with powdered sugar.
The McKinney location is from PS Do-Nuts, a franchise company led by Skeet Smith, who plans to open 10 to 15 more locations starting with two opening soon in Prosper and Aubrey.
For the McKinney debut, they're doing something new: giving away free doughnuts.
Every vehicle that drives through the drive-thru on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2, from 7 am-2 pm will get a free box of six pre-selected Shipley donuts – no purchase required.
“We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the opening of our new Shipley Do-Nuts location than by giving away a half-dozen doughnuts to every vehicle that drives through our drive-thru," Smith says. "It will be the biggest doughnut giveaway this town has ever seen."
