Colombo brings sexy back: Celebrity Waiter Luncheon gets wild at theRitz-Carlton
It’s not always easy to let your hair down — especially at a charitable event. But attendees at the third annual Celebrity Waiter Luncheon benefiting Family Gateway had no trouble relaxing at the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas. Guests such as Doris Jacobs, Amanda Ward, John Piermarini, Teffy Jacobs, Barbara Daseke, Carmaleta Whiteley, Cynthia Nordgren, Cary Deuber and Katy Bock marched right into the packed reception to register for bidding on auction items that included grand sports and travel packages, movie passes, art, and jewelry. Wine flowed freely before the 12 o’clock luncheon, and by the time the ballroom doors opened, more than 400 devotees were feeling good and ready to party.
One celebrity waiter was assigned to each table bedecked with feather boas and florals. All servers were ready and willing to accept tips for a bidder’s request, no matter how outlandish. As predicted, this wildly entertaining luncheon was unlike any other fundraiser. Emcee Steve Kemble, also known as “America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru,” recognized honorary chair Faye Briggs for her generosity — and for opening her home to host philanthropic events. A video starring co-chairs Maggie Cooke Kipp and Shay Geyer reminded guests how to bid: a minimum $100 tip to entice your waiter to do something spectacular. Once the rules were established, the celebrities ran out, dancing, tossing flowers and cheering. And then the real fun began.
Hunter Sullivan serenated a lady on stage, Marc Colombo sang and danced to “I’m Sexy and I Know It,”Courtney Kerr pasted fuzzy mustaches on faces — the list of antics goes on. The rowdy midday celebration inspired dancing, singing, clapping and spending throughout the charitable afternoon.
