Dallas-Fort Worth Airport lands new airline for flights to Iceland
Iceland has suddenly become the hottest travel destination for DFW travelers, as a new option has joined the pack. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport will welcome Icelandair service, connecting customers year-round to Iceland, beginning May 2018. Icelandair will offer flights between Reykjavík Keflavik International (KEF) and DFW four times per week with a Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
Icelandair will be the 17th international carrier to serve DFW International Airport.
In a statement, DFW Airport Sean Donohue says that Icelandair will offer customers a full-service option whether traveling to Reykjavik, Scandinavia, or other popular destinations in Europe.
The announcement of Icelandair's new service follows the September 7 announcement by competing carrier Wow Air, which will launch DFW-KEF nonstop service in May. Surely that's a coincidence? Whatever the case, DFW travelers are suddenly rich with Iceland flight choices, including the current option of flying via JetBlue from DFW to Boston, and transfer there to Icelandair.
Founded in 1937, Icelandair is the elder airline statesman for Iceland. The new route will open up more travel choices for DFW customers via the Icelandair hub in Reykjavik, which serves more than 25 destinations in Europe, says Icelandair CEO Birkir Holm Gudnason.
"As we celebrate our 80th anniversary, we are pleased to offer the largest route network in Icelandair's history," he says. "Our new service from Dallas Fort Worth will provide a refreshing alternative for travelers from Texas with non-stop flights to Iceland and beyond. The new DFW route will also open opportunities for European travelers wanting to explore the Dallas Fort Worth region and the great Lone Star state. We look forward to welcoming Dallas Fort Worth travelers aboard."
Reykjavik Keflavik International Airport (KEF) to DFW service will debut on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, as follows:
KEF to DFW
Departs KEF 5:15 pm, arrives DFW at 8:40 pm, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays
DFW to KEF
Departs DFW at 5 pm, arrives KEF at 6 am, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays
The airline will fly out of International Terminal D, which not only features efficient customs processing, but also the best collection of shopping, dining, and amenities. DFW's geographic position, size and amenities also makes for convenient connections from Europe and Asia to points across North America, Central and South America.
