Weekend travel news
I-30 freeway east of Dallas will be closed all weekend for bridge work
Drivers on the east side of Dallas may want to avoid heading downtown on I-30 over the weekend as there will be a closure that will be in place all weekend long.
According to a release, all lanes of I-30 west-bound side — heading towards downtown, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Fort Worth, and great Western stops beyond — will close at St. Francis Avenue, an exit about 5 miles from downtown Dallas.
The closure will begin on Friday January 17 and be in place until Monday January 20.
Weather permitting, all lanes of westbound I-30 will be closed and detoured to the frontage road at St. Francis Avenue beginning at 9 pm on Friday, January 17 and staying in place until 5 am on Monday, January 20.
The closure is for a bridge maintenance project.
All lanes of St. Francis Avenue will also be closed at the I-30 interchange during this time.
Drivers should plan ahead for delays and be alert to slower traffic heading into in the corridor.
Who this affects: People who live in Mesquite, Buckner Terrace, Casa View, Sunnyvale, Rockwall, Rowlett, who are thinking about heading into downtown Dallas over the weekend to, say, pick up a bagel at Starship Bagel. Or maybe grab a vegan soft-serve cone at Swirled Peace in Oak Cliff. Or really any establishment in Oak Cliff at all. If that's your plan, you'll want to be prepared for some stoppage on the way. Particularly sincde it's I-30, which winds a lot and stymies drivers to begin with.
