Dallas Boys & Girls Club puts on the ritz to mark half a century of changing lives
A 50th anniversary celebration calls for something unexpected, and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas (BGCD) delivered at the 2015 Billiard Ball. A surprise flash mob performance by New Century Dance Company and BGCD members interrupted the opening cocktail reception, and participants ushered party guests into the Ritz-Carlton ballroom where the program began in earnest.
After a warm welcome from emcee Scott Murray, BGCD CEO Charles English and board chair Chris Trowbridge spoke to attendees about the impact the organization has on the youth of our city. Then New Century Dance Company returned for another powerful performance, which was followed by a lavish dinner.
A few thank yous to sponsors and supporters were in order, and Billiard Ball co-chairs Barbara and Steve Durham, Julie and Steve Rado, Tara and Bill Durham, and Kristin and Peter Durham made their way to the stage to do just that. A lively game of heads and tails then revved up the audience for the live auction, which included resort packages, Dallas Cowboys game day experience and dinner with Kent Rathbun.
Guests — including Janie and David Condon, Stacy Girard, Jerry Rasansky, Lynn and Allan McBee, and Day and George Watson — also participated in “fund a cause,” which raised $25,000, with a dollar-for-dollar match from Maverick Capital. Following the live auction, guests danced the night away to live music by Project M while others played in the billiard tournament.
Funds raised during this exciting evening help support programs focusing on the academic success, healthy lifestyle, good character and citizenship of the kiddos of this great city. Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas has been providing life-changing services for youth in Dallas the surrounding areas for half a century.
