History With a Twist

Revelers embrace roaring '20s theme at Dallas' most historical costume party

Dallas Heritage Village typically is a history museum that teaches thousands of kids about life in Dallas from 1840-1910. When it's time for the adults to have a some fun in the name of history, however, it's all about costumes, cocktails and canapes.

 

That was the scene recently at the third annual History with a Twist, where adults were invited to learn a little and raise a lot.

 

Event chair Wynne McNabb Cunningham and honorary chairs Sally and Forrest Hoglund greeted gals and gents, who struck a pose in front of Model T Fords parked at the front. From there everyone roamed between four historic buildings to imbibe cocktail creations by Brian McCullough of Standard Pour.

 

We appreciate a good theme, thus we loved the food stations by Jim Lee Catering that included the New Yorker Speakeasy (Reubens, meatball sandwiches and cheesecake); Great Gatsby Splendor (shrimp and smoked salmon); and Mafia Gangster (cheese tortellini and crab-stuffed mushrooms).

 

Once guests had a chance to grab a bite and check out the silent auction, their ears led them to the building hosting the Singapore Slingers. The dance floor was packed with attendees — ​including Deborah and Steve Martin, Addie Benson, Joshua Fisher, Denise Sansing, Scott Beard, William Angles, Adam Coreil, Sam Childers, and Jeff Hemphill — some of whom got pointers from dance teachers from the Rhythm Room.

 

Guests also had to watch out for the Main Street Sheriff, who could make an arrest at any time and put them in "jail." Fortunately, bail was raised for each inmate so they could return to the party. Isn't it funny how that all worked out?

 

 Dallas Heritage Village is an immersive history landscape of 25 historic structures on 20 acres that features a wide variety of authentic 19th century pioneer and Victorian homes and commercial buildings.
