Legendary newsman Tom Brokaw ensures Dallasites give big to dignified nonprofit
What: VNA Legends & Leaders Luncheon 2015
Where:Hilton Anatole
The 411: Award-winning journalist Tom Brokaw was the keynote speaker for VNA’s annual luncheon, appropriately dubbed Legends & Leaders. “We wanted a speaker who is a legend in his own right, and we were thrilled to have the wonderful opportunity to host Mr. Brokaw,” said VNA president and CEO Katherine Krause.
Charitable Dallas guests as distinguished as the speaker himself headed for the Hilton Anatole to hear the man best known as the anchor of NBC Nightly News reflect on his storied and award-winning career. Brokaw has an impressive list of firsts — the first interview with Mikhail Gorbachev, the first network report on human rights abuses in Tibet accompanied by an exclusive interview with the Dalai Lama, the only American network anchor to report from Berlin the night the Berlin Wall came down — and he is the author of several books. In his latest, A Lucky Life Interrupted, he reflects on his struggle with myeloma and coming to terms with his own mortality.
The springtime event raked in $625,000 for VNA Hospice Care and VNA Meals on Wheels programs that allow our elderly, ill and disabled neighbors to age with dignity at home.
