As a designer, Tory Burch keeps evolving. Her spring 2016 collection, unveiled at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week, features a lot of the looks that have made the brand one of the hottest and fastest-growing around: signature tunics, wrap skirts, embroidered shirts, preppy shift dresses, and knit jacquard caftans with a bohemian traveler vibe.
But it also offered some surprises. Urban-looking wrap skirts in perforated leather or iridescent organza, a strapless evening gown embellished with intricate gold foil embroidery, and metallic tunic dresses with a glittery sheen that still manage to maintain Burch's relaxed, effortless attitude.
"I'm really interested in the weights and the general feel [of the fabric]," Burch said. "I did really focus on that. I wanted it to be referencing where we started and who we are and really be our DNA — but take it further."
Accessories are strong points of the Burch empire, and this time she unveiled handbags in colorful orange and periwinkle fringe, knit jacquards, macrame with light-refracting pearls, and opalescent painted vachetta leather. Several looks were enhanced by chunky oxidized jewelry — collar necklaces, drop earrings, cuffs, and rings — and necklaces featuring pearls disguised as enamel flower buds.
A square-toe slingback with a futuristic metallic gold wedge heel that Burch said was inspired by a slice of natural bark is among the most eye-catching footwear of the season. It's likely to be a hot item come spring.
