Chefs for Farmers tops best food and drink events in Dallas

This Week in Gluttony is a light one, unfortunately. Halloween’s Thursday time slot means that a lot of places are still on full spook alert.

For this round-up we’ve gathered a couple of the foodier Halloween selections, thrown in a little Italian fall cooking for those tired of goblins and ghouls, and we’re topping it off with the second annual Chefs for Farmers — which is a bit like topping off a chicken salad with a giant steak. It’s a big deal, is what we mean.

Wednesday, October 30

Dia De Los Muertos at Wild Salsa
Wild Salsa hosts a Dia De Lose Muertos gathering that starts October 30 and runs through November 2. Celebrate with chef Kelly Hightower's pumpkin horchata margarita with tequila, spiced pumpkin, lemon juice, horchata and honey. Pair that with arroz con pollo with saffron-braised free range chicken, chayote rice and pinto bean stew.

Ghostly Wine and Chocolate Tasting at the Wine Poste with Dude, Sweet Chocolate
The Wine Poste hosts a special haunted event with Dude, Sweet Chocolate chef and owner Katherine Clapner. The event begins at 7 pm and features chocolates inspired by the holiday, including Clapner’s limited-edition cajeta skulls, along with wines that have devilish and haunting labels. Reservations are $35 per person and can be purchased online.

Friday, November 1

Fall for Italian at Central Market Lovers
Central Market cooking school teaches you how to incorporate fall ingredients into classic Italian dishes beginning at 6:30 pm. Students learn how to make truffled tallegio and mushroom pizzetta with arugula, sausage-stuffed pork loin with sage, butternut squash polenta, and more. Spots are $60 and can be reserved online.

Movember Kick Off at Goodfriend
The guys at Goodfriend at doing Movember again, and they're asking for your support beginning at 8 pm. Come out and get a clean shave with a traditional straight razor from The Boardroom. Get your "Before" picture taken sans 'stache then pick up a beer from Breckenridge Brewery at the bar and enjoy some live music from Wyldwood Four, a rockabilly band out of Austin. It's all part of joining Goodfriend's Stash Freaks team as they hope to beat last year's mark of $5,000 raised for Movember. This time, they need your mustache to succeed.

Asador Superhero Brunch
Asador in the Renaissance Hotel keeps the Halloween party rolling with a superhero-themed brunch from 11 am to 3 pm. Dress up as your favorite superhero and enjoy the “Good Guys” menu with Spidey’s Chocolate Web Pancakes; Ninja Turtle in a Hole with local Texas toast, Hudspeth Farm’s egg and green Gruyere sauce; and Fantastic Four Cheese & Mac made with a blend of four locally sourced cheeses. The “Evil Doers” menu features a Poison Ivy Salad tossed with Tassione Farm’s baby greens and Eggs-Bane-dict. For reservations, call 214-267-4815.

2013 Chefs for Farmers: Down and Dirty on the Boulevard
The second annual Chefs for Farmers celebrates wine and culinary excellence with an outdoor festival at Lee Park. Produced by chef-owner Matt McCallister of FT33 and his wife, Iris, CFF brings together more than 40 talented Southern chefs, local farmers, purveyors, and premier local wine and spirit producers in an afternoon to support the North Texas Food Bank and local farms. Also enjoy performances by local bands and DJs.

Longtime Dallas restaurant Sevy's Grill to close after nearly 30 years

A longtime Dallas restaurant is closing in 2026: Sevy's Grill, which has been open at 8201 Preston Rd. near Preston Center for nearly 30 years, will close on June 27, 2026.

According to a release from the owners, they're closing due to what appears to be an increase in rent.

"After months of negotiations, we were not able to come to a mutually beneficial agreement for our fourth 10-year lease," the post said.

The restaurant is located in Preston Sherry Plaza, which was acquired in September 2025 by Austin-based Endeavor Real Estate. Somebody gotta foot the bill.

Sevy's says they are looking at other locations.

"Our focus now is to finish these next 6+ months taking care of our guests and staff at the same caring level we built our brand on: Warm, professional service, consistently good food and a comfortable ambiance where the guest is always first," the post says. "First on our list of priorities is taking care of our guests in December and all the wonderful celebrations of family, friends and business groups. We do still have some availability for reservations, including our last New Years Eve at Preston Sherry. Come celebrate with us as the exciting anticipation of a new year for all of us."

"Our second priority will be the search for a new location to continue doing what we love," they said. "We are already reviewing possible sites and will keep everyone updated regularly."

Owned by chef Jim "Sevy" Severson and his wife Amy Severson, the restaurant has long been a neighborhood favorite with a lively bar scene, and was nominated in CultureMap's 2018 Tastemaker Awards for Best Neighborhood Restaurant. They were a frequent choice for winemaker events and are also known for the longevity of their staff.

"Eight team members have been with us all 29+ years, with an average tenure in the kitchen of 15+ years and a Management team that you all know," their post said. "Come support our staff as we celebrate the next 6+ months.Thank you again for your support through all the normal challenges of running a restaurant as well as economic downturns, market bubbles, Y2K, and of course the COVID era. As I tell my family and friends to “enjoy the ride in life”, wow, what an amazing ride it has been for us! And as always, Sevy’s Grill is here for you."
