Need Turns 1
Need throws cocktail-fueled anniversary fête to toast a year of milestones
Need founder Matt Alexander and new COO Imran Sheikh had a lot to celebrate recently. The duo threw a party for the first anniversary of their men’s lifestyle site — which also happened to be both of their birthdays.
That also was the day that Need launched a redesign, which provides an improved experience for its now 200,000-plus users, such as new features like favoriting and automated returns. The redesign also includes Essentials, a selection of items for day-to-day life (think grooming products and literature) that are available outside the normal monthly collection.
To appropriately commemorate the occasion, the Need team welcomed supporters — including David Goltl, Smoot Carter, Ellen Flowers, Janie Flowers, Blaire and Peter Butler, Clarisa Lindenmeyer, Molly Cain, Lauren and Hunter Pond, and Carla Rosenberg — to its headquarters in the Design District, where they enjoyed cocktails shaken by the experts at Parliament and small bites courtesy of Oak. There was plenty to reminisce about, because a lot has transpired during these last 12 months, including more funding and staff, a stint as co-sponsor of New York Fashion Week Men’s Day, and the launch of the Deep Ellum pop-up concept Unbranded — an endeavor between Need and fellow online men’s retailer Foot Cardigan.
