Big Win for At-Risk Kids
SoccerBall brings home the win for America Scores Dallas
More than 300 of Dallas' movers and shakers descended on the Fashion Industry Gallery to toast the 10th annual SoccerBall benefiting America Scores Dallas. Marlene Sughrue, this year's event chair, welcomed guests with cocktails and hors d'oeuvre as they explored silent auction items including jewelry, travel and, of course, culinary experiences with some of the best in the Dallas food biz.
Speaking of fantastic food, Jeff Harris (new chef at AF+B in Fort Worth) created a three-course meal for guests, including Dan Hunt, Brandon Olds, Ashley Tatum, Newt Walker, Steve Caple, Gavin George, Lauren Christensen, John Christensen, Maxine and Ben Trowbridge, Michelle Mireles, and Gilbert Garza.
The highlight of the evening was a poetry performance by some of the children participating in the America Scores Dallas program. It was only a taste of what this nonprofit after-school program does each and every day as it helps hundreds of at-risk children in 10 DISD schools.
America Scores Dallas is an affiliate of the national program, and it is the only youth development program that addresses high obesity and illiteracy rates in Dallas while cultivating the next generation of leaders in urban elementary schools through the combination of soccer, poetry and service learning.
