Dallas dance group commands attention with bold new name for new season
Out with TITAS Presents. In with TITAS/Dance Unbound. The longtime Dallas dance presenter is debuting a new name for a new season, also full of debuts.
The group, in association with AT&T Performing Arts Center, presents a 2019-2020 season featuring companies from six countries with four Texas debuts.
"Surprising, captivating, international. These words speak to what sets TITAS/Dance Unbound apart, " the organization says in a release. "For more than 37 years, TITAS has presented the coolest, the most innovative, the most remarkable dance artists touring the world today, hence our new name. A name that is more in line with who we are and what we do."
The next season promises to be funny, stunning, inspiring, and exciting, they say, with 10 companies from the United States, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, France, and China. Four of them are making their Texas debuts in Dallas with TITAS.

Ronald K. Brown/Evidence (USA)

Choreographer Ron Brown’s stories and movement express traditional themes of community, ritual, and collective experience. In Brown’s words, he wants his work to represent “all the information that has gone into us — the stories, the history. It is really the human experience.” Ronald K. Brown/Evidence’s highly anticipated return to Dallas will feature a mixed rep including this extraordinary work Grace, originally created for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
BODYTRAFFIC (USA)

Named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2013, and a definite TITAS favorite, BODYTRAFFIC has surged to the forefront of the dance world. After a decade of stellar performances and world tours that inlcuded Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Netherlands, BODYTRAFFIC has solidified its place as a force to be reckoned with on the international dance landscape. Hofesh Shechter, Ohad Naharin, Andrea Miller, Richard Siegal and Stijn Celis are just a few of the world’s top choreographers who have chosen to set works on BODYTRAFFIC, and TITAS has them back.

Delfos Danza Contemporánea (Mexico) (Debut)

Founded in 1992 in Mexico City by Mexican choreographers/dancers Claudia Lavista and Victor Manuel Ruiz, Delfos Danza Contemporánea is Mexico’s premiere contemporary dance company, ranking among the best in Latin America. Cuando los Disfraces se Cuelgan (When the Disguises are Hung Up) is an evening-length reflection on appearances and the disguises we put on in order to navigate a world. Brilliant imagery, powerful dancers and compelling movement make Delfos a stellar addition to the TITAS roster.
Malandain Ballet Biarritz (France)

In the 2014-2015 season, TITAS presented Malandain Ballet Biarritz with Cinderella. But alas, in a true live theatre moment, the sets, props and costumes never made it off the boat from France. On the fly, and after a scramble, the company presented a spectacular repertory performance. Now in the 2019-2020 season, the Cinderella sets, props and costumes are arriving. One of the most important companies on the world stage, Thierry Malandain has forged an extraordinary reputation. He has taken hold of a ballet monument, Cendrillon, score by Prokofiev, and provided a fresh vision of an iconic story ballet.

BeijingDance/LDTX (LDTX) is China’s first officially registered private professional contemporary dance company, co-founded in 2005 by Willy TSAO and LI Han-zhong. LDTX, Lei Dong Tian Xia, translates into “thunder rumbles the universe.” Willy TSAO, an influential figure in China’s contemporary dance, has created a remarkable company of artists full of individuality and technique. With exquisitely trained dancers from across China, LDTX provides a platform for Chinese dance artists to experiment and present multi-dimensional works. LDTX makes its debut in Texas with a stunningly crafted evening-length work, ARC.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (USA)

When Alvin Ailey and a small group of African-American dancers took the stage on March 30, 1958 at New York City's 92nd Street Y, the engagement was for one night only, but it turned out to be the start of a new era in the arts. 60 years later, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continues its reign as an American “cultural ambassador to the world” — having performed live for an estimated 25 million people in 48 states, 71 countries, and six continents. The gifted and gorgeous Ailey dancers infuse energy and emotion to classics and new works alike. Steeped in rich Korean culture, with a mastery of traditional Korean dance, including shaman dance, Buddhist dance, folk dance, and court dance, ChangMu Dance Company has helped bring Korean dance to the world stage. KIM’s stunning blending of contemporary and traditional choreography celebrates the future of Korean dance while honoring the past. Gorgeous cultural representation and remarkable dancers, TITAS/Dance Unbound welcomes KIM Maeja/ChangMu Dance Company in their Texas debut.
RUBBERBAND (Canada) (Debut)

Founded in 2002 by Victor Quijada, RUBBERBAND immediately imposed itself in Canada and abroad as an explosive one-of-a-kind troupe. In 15 years, RUBBERBAND has not only redefined breakdance, but they have opened the way for new creators fascinated by this dance form. Delivering delicacy, finesse, brutality, and high-voltage action, Victor Quijada’s Ever So Slightly, performed with live music, is an exciting addition to the TITAS season. They are making their Texas debut with TITAS in Dallas.

Jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring, Command Performance always delivers one of the most exciting performances of the year. Artists from leading companies light up the stage with spectacular performances. It is the pyrotechnics of dance — the most exciting, innovative and beautiful works being performed today. Command Performance also features TITAS/Dance Unbound commissioned works created specifically for this gala performance; works by some of the world’s leading choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Dwight Rhoden, Jessica Lang, Mia Michaels, Sonya Tayeh, Bridget L. Moore and WANG Yuanyuan.
Tickets for TITAS Unbound regular season performances begin at $12. Performance tickets to TITAS Unbound Command Performance also begin at $12. Subscribers receive discounted pricing depending on the number of shows they purchase and priority seating. Currently, patrons may purchase either the full season subscription or a minimum of six titles on a flex-subscription plan. Individual tickets, should they remain available after subscription sales, will be made available at a later date.
