Dallas-Fort Worth native named new CEO of major musical theater resource hub

A major change in leadership at a resource hub for musical writers and producers might make Dallas-Fort Worth more of a go-to destination for developing new theatrical work.
MusicalWriters.com — which provides coaching, publicity, networking, table reads, and workshop opportunities to help new musicals get off the ground — has appointed DFW resident Rebecca Lowrey as the new owner and CEO, effective August 1.
Lowrey, who is already a well-known local accompanist, music director, and vocal coach, is assuming the role from Holly Reed, who has been at the organization's helm since 2017.
“Rebecca’s incredible skillset as a music director, producer, creative, coach, encourager, and just all-around amazing human made bringing her on board a no-brainer," says Reed. "I have trusted her completely in every aspect of her leadership and always knew anything she touched was going to be done at 200 percent. She is a force, a champion, a joy, and a rock. I have full confidence in her vision and capability to take MusicalWriters into the future, using that determination, creativity, and wisdom to help writers and new works succeed.”
Lowrey has served as MusicalWriters' producing director for the past two years, organizing more than 15 staged readings of brand-new musicals and 25 table reads for writers all over the world.
In this new role, Lowrey says she has big plans for putting Dallas-Fort Worth on the map as a vibrant hub for new musical creation and development.
A release states that "she believes that the power of storytelling through music knows no bounds, and it's time to decentralize the notion that Broadway and New York City hold the monopoly on musical theater greatness."
“I am committed to providing support and encouragement to writers everywhere, especially those who have been overlooked or unheard in the traditional theatre scene," Lowrey says.
Holly Reed acquired MusicalWriters.com from founder and mentor Carol de Giere, and transformed it into a modern and welcoming platform for writers and producers of new musicals.
Reed’s tenure saw the creation of the MusicalWriters Academy, providing members with masterclasses, networking, group coaching, and exclusive development opportunities.
Upcoming is a workshop of The Bystander, The Bird, and The Beard: Three New Musicals by Ed Levy, Eric Grunin, and Alexander Craven, held at Theatre Arlington on August 11-12.
