US News & World Report has released its Best Children's Hospitals 2013-2014 ranking, and Children's Medical Center of Dallas took the top spot in orthopedics, in combination with programs at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
Children's Medical Center is also nationally ranked in nine other specialties, including cancer, cardiology and endocrinology. According to the American Hospital Association, surgeons at the 408-bed Dallas hospital performed 6,187 annual inpatient and 20,362 outpatient surgeries. Its emergency room had 135,614 visits.
Meanwhile, Texas Children's Hospital in Houston ranked No. 4 on the Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll, following Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Boston Children's Hospital and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
US News issues separate rankings for children's hospitals and other hospitals and traditionally releases the lists about a month apart. The 2013-14 rankings for Best Hospitals is expected to be released later this summer.
