Boundaries and Borders
What is Uptown? A closer look at the popular Dallas neighborhood.
Uptown is one of Dallas' most recognizable neighborhoods, but even Big D natives might get stumped if asked to define its borders.
Throughout Uptown's 591.8 total acres, you'll find shopping, dining, office buildings, and residences, along with plenty of parks and green space — in fact, Uptown is 99 percent developed, 96 percent occupied, and has a total property value of more than $6.4 billion.
Uptown is managed by the nonprofit Uptown Dallas, Inc., a public improvement district (or PID) that hires off-duty police officers, beautifies with flowers and trees, promotes local businesses, and even works with new developments on best practices for the neighborhood.
So what, exactly, constitutes Uptown and what falls just short of the Uptown district?
More than 30,000 people can be found strolling around the area during the day, enjoying such Uptown hot spots as West Village, the Quadrangle, Katy Trail Ice House, McKinney Avenue, the Crescent, and more.
Outside of Uptown are new developments like The Union, which includes The Henry and North Italia. Also falling just south of the Uptown border is hot spot Happiest Hour. Businesses along Oak Lawn, like the Centrum Building, are actually part of the Oak Lawn neighborhood and not considered Uptown.
