The Family Place empowers abuse victims to have happy and successful lives
A young mother named Aaliyah stayed in an abusive relationship for eight years before finding help at the Family Place. The organization provided housing, support and education for the struggling family. Aaliyah, who credits the program with teaching her how to support herself and her two boys, eventually earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and is now a fourth-grade teacher.
Today, the Family Place is working to bring the joy of the holiday season to families who have endured traumatic lives with the Adopt-a-Family program. The organization helps victims of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling and skills in an effort to create independence and empowerment. Adopt-a-Family gives the Dallas community an opportunity to help one of these special families have a positive holiday experience.
In just 2012 alone, the Family Place provided services to a total of 12,398 clients in Spanish and in English. Currently housing 74 women and children at the Family Place Safe Campus, the organization works to empower abuse victims to have happy and successful lives.
