Bonton Farms in south Dallas to add a health and financial wellness center
An acclaimed nonprofit doing great things for Dallas is doing another great thing: Bonton Farms, which began as an urban farm dedicated to providing equitable solutions in South Dallas, has broken ground on the Bonton Farms Wellness Center, a new facility that will provide medical care and other well-being amenities for an estimated 400 residents.
According to a release, the facility will be located at 6407 Carlton Garrett St., and will open in 2025.
This holistic-coordinated endeavor is intended to make positive changes and reduce disparities in the lives of the residents in South Dallas. The center will:
- provide evidence-based, integrated, holistic primary, and preventative medical care
- promote financial well-being
- cultivate healthy food access
Designed by Parkhill – the architectural and engineering design team for the project – it'll be an 11,000-square-foot space, dedicated mostly to education and primary medical care.
The Methodist Community Collaborative has selected the center as a public access point and will coordinate the provision of primary medical care, including staffing, equipment, and supplies, along with health education.
Baylor Scott & White Health and Wellness Center is also a community partner and will provide evidence-based prevention and intervention services to improve community health.
The center will also host community events, such as health fairs. Classes on exercise, nutrition, cooking, and disease prevention health education will be accessible at times that are most convenient to the community.
A Financial Wellness and Resource Center will provide fundamental tools on basics like budgeting, credit repair, debt management, wealth building, home ownership preparedness, entrepreneurship/MWBE Certification, and small business loans. This initiative is made possible by the collaboration with nine partner banks: JPMorgan Chase & Co., Southside Bank, Independent Financial, Tolleson Private Wealth, Texas Security Bank, First United Bank, Happy State Bank, a Division of Centennial Bank, Texas Capital Bank, and Prosperity Bank (formerly First Capital Bank of Texas).
In a statement, Bonton Farms President Gabe Madison called it "an incredible day for the Bonton community, stating that "this center is another seed of change planted in our community, and we are fully confident it will impact generations to come."
