5 Randy Travis songs we're singing to heal the ailing country star's heart
Country music icon Randy Travis was admitted to an undisclosed Texas hospital July 8 due to complications from viral cardiomyopathy. Travis' publicist said the singer recently acquired the heart condition, which weakens and enlarges the cardiac muscles.
Travis was listed in critical condition and reportedly underwent heart surgery. Travis' sister-in-law Teresa Traywick told USA Today that heart conditions are hereditary in the singer's family.
It's been a rocky couple of years for Travis, who filed a lawsuit against the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas attorney general's office on May 14. The singer hoped to block the release of any information pertaining to his August 2012 drunk driving arrest, which involved Travis crashing his Pontiac Trans Am about 60 miles north of Dallas.
In February, Travis performed a touching tribute to slain sniper Chris Kyle and his wife, Taya. At Chris' memorial service at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Travis sang "Whisper My Name," a song that had special meaning to the couple.
Here's a 5-song soundtrack to wishing Travis a full and speedy recovery.
