    Where to Shop Now

Where to shop in Dallas right now: 9 must-hit stores for September

    Diana Oates
    Sep 9, 2019 | 1:45 pm

It is September, and that means Dallasites can realistically begin to hope for a break from the oppressive, summer heat. And while we are busy doing just that, we might as well pop into these new and exciting shops to get some retail therapy — even if we aren't quite ready to pull the trigger on chunky sweaters and beautiful booties.

    Alexandre Birman
This Brazilian brand recently opened the doors to its beautiful NorthPark Center boutique on level one near Neiman Marcus and is showcasing luxury shoes that span the style spectrum. Whether you are in the market for pumps, sneakers, or boots, you're going to leave with a quality pair of shoes that are modern yet sophisticated. Yep, they even manage to make tennis shoes look chic.

    Dolce & Gabbana
The first of the month marked the grand opening of Dallas-Fort Worth's only Dolce & Gabbana store. Located on level one near Neiman Marcus in NorthPark, the shop features high-end clothing, leather goods, footwear, accessories, jewelry and more for men, women, and children. The store's opening in fortuitous, as the brand is the fashion show headliner at this year's glittering First Sight Luncheon put on by the Dallas Opera.

    FIG Finale Sale
The highly anticipated annual event takes place at Fashion Industry Gallery each September, bringing a once-a-year opportunity for the public to shop fashion, accessories, gifts, art, and decor at up to 75 percent off retail. This year's extravaganza — marking FIG's 15th anniversary — takes place September 12-14, kicking off with a can't-miss VIP shopping party on the evening of Thursday, September 12. Shoppers will find covetable clothing and jewelry, as well as adding art, decor, beauty, and wellness brands. FIG Finale has also formed a new partnership with Jackson, the legendary lifestyle concierge and "curator of experiences," who will co-host the VIP shopping party and after-party. Find out more about it all here.

    GuudWEAR
Launching on the heels of a successful Kickstarter campaign, GuudWEAR is a socially inspired apparel company that donates a portion of everything sold to nonprofit organizations targeting homelessness. It was started by a Dallas entrepreneurial duo who decided to leave corporate life behind to start the mission-minded company. Seven percent of proceeds from every item sold will be donated to a nonprofit organization. T-shirts are available online for $26.99 and feature designs inspired by nonconventional street art found around the city, such as manhole covers and placards. Read all about the new venture here.

    Le Labo
During the month of September, the Highland Park Village boutique is exclusively launching its hand-blended City Exclusive collection. This unique selection of fragrances is influenced by 14 of the world's most distinct cities, and Dallas is included (obvi). Dallas’ signature scent, Aldehyde 44, is available only in Dallas. It is described as having a unique "clean" fragrance due to floral notes balanced by "a bed of musks" and just a touch of vanilla.

    Maje
Founded in Paris in 1998, this bold brand opened its first store on the left bank of the Seine in 1998 and is now seen in 37 countries around the world, including, now, NorthPark Center. Offering women everything from ready-to-wear to accessories, Maje prides itself on offering both trend-led and classic pieces. It is described as understated yet glamorous, thanks to the resolutely feminine silhouettes and subtle details in their pieces.

    Miron Crosby x Prabal Gurung
Dallas-based Miron Crosby and luxury apparel designer Prabal Gurung have teamed up to launch an exclusive, limited-edition line of cowboy boots. The new collection, which includes two styles in eight design options, debuted on September 8 during the Prabal Gurung Spring 2020 New York Fashion week show. "The collaboration combines Miron Crosby's fashion-forward Western aesthetic with Gurung's signature style, and both brands' dedication to quality, handcrafted fashion that reimagines everyday classics," a spokeswoman says. The collection is filled with bold colors, metallics, and textured leathers. Retailing between $1,895 and $3,995, the designs are available now in store and at MironCrosby.com and PrabalGurung.com.

    Neighborhood Goods
Fossil fans, listen up. The iconic watch brand is popping up at Plano's favorite store — the modern-day alternative to a department store — for a limited-time experiential concept shop. The Fossil x Neighborhood Goods shop-in-shop is offering a variety of limited-edition products, including Design Major II, the latest fall trends, and even unique customization opportunities, including on-site engraving. This shop is popping up until December 30.

    Tootsies
Dallas-based artist Mione Plant is launching her exclusive line of silk scarves at the Plaza at Preston Center's chicest shop. Available only at Tootsies, the "Kiss my Sass" collection is all about self-reflection and the power of presenting one's true self to the world. Featuring images of various animals juxtaposed with their (much more lively) reflections, the scarves are joyful, colorful, and playful. The art-turned-fashion venture officially launched on September 7 and is in the store now.

Texas AG Ken Paxton opens investigation into fast-fashion giant Shein

Shein is now under investigation from the Texas Attorney General.

Critics of fast fashion have found a strange bedfellow in Ken Paxton. The Texas Attorney General announced December 1 he would investigate online retailer Shein for alleged unethical labor practices and unsafe consumer products.

According to a release from Paxton’s office, the inquiry aims to find out if Shein’s “supply chain and manufacturing practices violate Texas law by using toxic or hazardous materials, misleading consumers about product safety, and misleading consumers about ethical sourcing.” The probe will also look into the corporation’s data collection and privacy practices.

In a statement, Paxton put a partisan spin on the investigation.

“Safe, non-toxic material and products are another key ingredient to [Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s] Make America Healthy Again movement,” said Paxton in the release. “Any company that cuts corners on labor standards or product safety, especially those operating in foreign nations like China, will be held accountable.”

Paxton’s move unexpectedly aligns the AG with environmental watchdogs. Nonprofit Yale Climate Connections has long sounded the alarm about the Singapore-based e-tailer, calling it one of the world’s biggest polluters. Paxton has long railed against climate change regulations and sued the Biden administration several times to block emissions rules.

The investigation is part of a larger Republican crackdown on Chinese consumer products. On Capitol Hill, lawmakers are debating new restrictions on Shenzhen-based aerial drone maker DJI, and Senator Tom Cotton has called for investigations of “Communist Chinese” companies Shein and Temu. The September Texas vape ban specifically banned disposable e-cigarettes manufactured in the country.

In a statement emailed to multiple media outlets, Shein said it would comply with Paxton’s investigation.

“Shein takes these concerns seriously and is fully committed to cooperating,” a spokesperson said. “Our mission — to provide affordable, fashionable products to customers around the world — is underpinned by a dedication to safety, compliance, and respect for human rights.”

The controversy will likely have little effect on Shein’s popularity with Zoomers. The company snagged an estimated $38 billion in sales in 2024 and has an average of 24.7 million active app users each month.
