Austin's gourmet Cow Tipping Creamery scoops up cozy Dallas location
Austin's favorite gourmet soft-serve, Cow Tipping Creamery, has found a home in Dallas. The artisanal ice cream company will open a stand inside Good 2 Go Taco.
Cow Tipping takes over the space vacated by Cultivar Coffee, which moved across the street to reside inside Goodfriend Package, the new sandwich and beer spot. A Facebook page already exists.
Cow Tipping will bring a variety and caliber of ice cream that's new to Dallas, whose ice cream scene lacks a certain something. Founded in 2012 by Corey and Timothy Sorensen, as a food truck in Austin, its specialty is soft-serve ice cream in cool flavors such as peppermint cocoa and green tea.
They also do sundaes, called "stackers," combining soft-serve with house-made sauces and chunky ingredients such as brownies, pretzels, cookies, and toasted marshmallows. Consider a sundae made with peppermint soft-serve, cookie crumbs, dark chocolate sauce, toasted marshmallows, and crushed peppermint candies. Or white chocolate macadamia soft-serve, with white chocolate rice crispy brownie chunks, white chocolate sauce, and white chocolate chips.
In January, Cow Tipping joined the ever-growing family of Cane Rosso, the Neapolitan-style pizzeria chain from uber-restaurateur Jay Jerrier. He announced that he would be partnering with Cow Tipping as well as expanding Cane Rosso to Austin, taking over the space vacated by St. Philip, the Uchi group's doomed pizza parlor and bakery.
According to Jerrier, they hope to be open "very soon."
"We're working to get a 'go live' timeline together this week," he says.
At Good 2 Go, Cow Tipping will take over the nook previously occupied by Cultivar. But Good 2 Go co-owner Jeana Johnson says not to fret: Customers will still be able to get Dallas-roasted coffee via Full City Rooster, which will be available both in the form of drip coffee and retail whole beans. Meanwhile, she's excited about the opportunity to offer something that's unique.
"We're thrilled that Good 2 Go serves as Cow Tipping's first pilot space," she says. "I think it will be unbelievable. Dallas needs this."
