There is less than a month until the NFL starts. Most of y’all probably care about this in the most cursory terms, but it’s also a sign that summer is drawing to a close, even if September and parts of October are just as miserable. Damn you, October.
Anyway, we have so much wine in This Week in Gluttony. Seriously, it’s like Dionysus put this thing together. Please keep your orgies to yourselves.

Summer Fruit Cooks at Central Market Lovers
Learn to brighten up your meals with seasonal summer fruit at this Central Market cooking class. The course teaches you to make dishes such as grilled scallops and nectarines with tomato salad, pork tournedos with blackberry gastrique and mango salsa, and strawberry and rhubarb crumble. Seats are $60 and the event runs from 6:30 to 9 pm.

Wine and Cheese Chat at The Grape
Sommelier Courtney Luscher and Scardello’s Ali Morgan host a wine and cheese chat at The Grape from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Guests can try four different cheeses paired with four wines for $28. Those that stay for dinner receive 20 percent off their bill. Reservations can be made at 214-828-1981.
Five-course Wine Dinner With Tiffany Derry at Wine Poste
The Wine Poste and guest chef Tiffany Derry put on a five-course meal beginning with a champagne reception at 7 pm. Dishes include pork buns with pork belly and pickled vegetables on a steamed bun paired with a 2011 Flux Blanc, and Peking duck with okra, tomato, herb salad and cornbread croutons paired with a 2010 Pierre Usseglio. The meal costs $110 per person, and reservations can be made at 214-272-3221.

Pappas Bros. Wine Dinner With Caymus Vineyards
Pappas Bros. hosts Caymus Vineyards for a four-course wine dinner beginning at 7 pm with a reception of 2011 Mer Soleil “Silver” unoaked Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay. Dishes include roasted breast of pheasant with leg in confit, toasted red quinoa and mache paired with a 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2010 “special selection” Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Seats are $175 per guest, and reservations can be made at 214-366-2000.

TEXSOM Closing Ceremonies and Wine Tasting
Taste more than 200 wines at the closing ceremony of the Texas’ Sommelier Conference at the Four Seasons from 7 to 9 pm. Mingle with winemakers, sommeliers and restaurant insiders and enjoy hors d’ouevre while sipping on world-class wines from all over the globe. Tickets are $95 and can be ordered online.
