    Rosé All Day

Hill Country winemakers uncork refreshing new way to rosé all day

Good news, day drinkers. There's an easy new way to rosé all day.

Chris Brundrett, co-founder of William Chris Vineyards, and Andrew Sides, co-founder of Lost Draw Cellars, have partnered up to launch a new venture, Yes We Can Wine. Inspired by the growing canned wine movement, the winemaker duo created the company to provide high-quality wine in a can.

The debut release is Sway Rosé, the first-ever 100 percent Texas-grown canned rosé and the newest option for fans of "rosé all day." It’s made and canned in Hye, home to William Chris Vineyards, from Texas High Plains grapes. The blend includes 32 percent Mourvèdre and 32 percent Carignan from Martin Vineyards, 15 percent Muscat Giallo and 10 percent Viognier from Bingham Vineyards, and 11 percent Malvasia Bianca from Farmhouse Vineyards.

Presented in cute three-pack of slim 7-ounce cans, Sway is medium-bodied but only 12.3 percent alcohol by volume. Whether in the can or poured into a glass, the wine is very aromatic. It boasts fruit-forward notes of peach and strawberry, with hints of tropical fruit and a crisp, dry finish. Sway Rosé’s makers claim it “pairs well with anything, from potato chips to caviar, bolognese to barbacoa tacos.”

We sampled it with Goldfish crackers, smoked goat Gouda, and linguini with preserved lemons and shrimp, and we wholeheartedly concur with its versatility. Late summer picnics, lake outings, and poolside barbecues have just found a new best friend.

In a press release, Brundrett says, “Texas wine is having a moment right now and we are excited to be a part of it. We want people to be able to experience Texas grown wine anytime, anywhere — and they can do that with us. Sway Rosé is a rallying call to Texans who are ready for the next great thing.”

Sway Rosé is available now at select Texas retail stores. You can also get it delivered to your door for $16 for a three-pack (plus tax and shipping).

A pizza chain from California famous for enormous pizzas is now open in McKinney: Mountain Mike’s Pizza is officially slinging the pies in a new shopping center at 4590 W. University Dr., where it opened July 14.

Mountain Mike’s, is a family-style pizza chain known for its crispy, curly cupped pepperoni as well as its 20-inch pizzas. This is their 11th location in Texas and ninth in DFW; the first Texas location debuted in Lewisville in 2022.

Their menu includes classics like all-meat, vegetarian, and loaded, with meat and veggie. Other pizzas include:

    • BBQ at the Ranch: chicken, bacon, tomato, and onion on BBQ sauce with ranch dressing
    • Snowy Alps: pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, Italian sausage, green onions and diced tomatoes on creamy garlic sauce
    • Pineapple Chicken Luau: chicken, bacon, and pineapple on BBQ sauce

Prices range from $7 for a 6-inch mini to a 14-inch large for $23 to the 20 incher which start at $37.

They also offer boneless and bone-in wings, plus salads, mozzarella sticks, crinkle-cut wedge potato fries, desserts, beer, and wine.

The McKinney location spans 3,000 square feet, with seven big-screen TVs, a giant video wall, kids’ arcade, and a large patio with yard games like outdoor corn hole.

Bringing the restaurant to McKinney are franchisees Hector Haget and Khris Tate, who own other concepts north of Dallas such as Cilantro Taco Grill. According to a release, they also plan to open an additional Mountain Mike’s Pizza in Prosper next year.

“Mountain Mike’s stands out in the crowded pizza category by combining premium ingredients, generous portions and a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere, and we see tremendous opportunity to build on the brand’s strong momentum and create new gathering places where the community can come together over a high-quality, memorable dining experience,” Haget says in a statement.

Mountain Mike’s was founded in 1978 in Palo Alto, California. It now has 300 restaurants across California, Texas, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Idaho.
