For this round of Dallas restaurant news, things are pretty quiet as far as openings and closings but there are seasonal menus and winter specials galore.

Here's what's happening in Dallas dining news:

Abu Omar Halal, a Texas-based shawarma concept with locations in Houston, Austin, and College Station, has opened up a shop in Richardson. The concept was founded in 2011 by Abu Omar originally as a halal food truck in Houston (then known as "Abu Omar Taco"). They soon discovered that chicken shawarma was a customer favorite, and have since focused almost entirely on Mediterranean classics, including our specialty shawarma. Abu Omar Halal now has 14 locations across Texas. They're at 811 S. Central Expy., 469-580-7240.

Original ChopShop, known for protein bowls, salads, sandwiches, and juice, is opening a location in Allen at the new Stacy Green Shopping Center, at 829 W. Stacy Rd. across from the Allen Premium Outlets. Original ChopShop debuted in North Texas in 2018; this will be its sixth DFW location and 14th system-wide. It'll feature a 335-square-foot patio, and will open in January 2020.

Genghis Grill, the build-your-own stir-fry chain, will open a location at Epic Central Grand Prairie, at 3148 Hwy. 161, Ste. 420, on December 20. The location will feature the chain's new interior design, with a bright interior, colorful booths, and new graphics. The restaurant will also feature a takeout pick-up area. This is the first new restaurant Genghis Grill has opened in Dallas-Fort Worth in five years, and is the chain's 15th restaurant in the DFW market.

Rusty Taco is offering two new seasonal menu items: savory BBQ Brisket Nachos and Adult Hot Chocolate. The BBQ Brisket Nachos feature tortilla chips topped with smoked brisket, cheddar cheese, queso, pico de gallo and BBQ sauce. Chorizo, ground beef, or chicken may be substituted. Adult Hot Chocolate features warm cocoa, cinnamon liqueur, whipped cream and a hint of cinnamon sprinkled on top. They'll be available through February 2.

Ocean Prime Dallas has undertaken a remodel with new lighting, furniture, finishes, and accessories along with several new and updated menu items. They include: A refurbished foyer and reception area, new wine features, new, enclosed patio, a reimagined OP Lounge with lowered ceilings, and new landscaping. New menu items include Ocean Roll with tuna, salmon, hamachi, and avocado; and Lobster Mac & Cheese.

The French Room Bar at The Adolphus has launched a "Bubble Lounge" throughout December in partnership with Perrier-Jouet that includes elaborate décor and a special champagne and cocktail menu. Perrier-Jouët champagnes are being served by the glass, including Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut ($20) and Perrier-Jouët Blanc de Blancs NV ($28) as well as by the bottle, with Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Brut ($300) and Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé ($550).

Jinya Ramen Bar has revived its popular Tokyo Tonkotsu ramen at all locations through February 29, alongside a brand-new cocktail menu featuring Japanese whiskies, low-ABV Shochu cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages. The Tokyo Tonkotsu is made with pork broth, pork chashu, green onion, kikurage, onion, seasoned egg and thin ramen noodles. New cocktails include Yatagarasu, a charcoal-activated cocktail with Toki whisky, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and simple syrup; and Komerabi Sour, with Toki whisky, fresh lemon juice and berries.

Grimaldi's Pizzeria has introduced its first-ever seasonal menu, available through March 3, 2020. Dishes include Winter Harvest Salad with Brussels sprouts on a bed of arugula with red onions, bacon, feta cheese, dried cranberries and balsamic dressing; Sausage & Wine-Braised Onion Pizza; Reese's® Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake; and Eggnog Cheesecake.

Malibu Poke has launched its first seasonal menu for winter with seasonal bowls, soup, and noodles. They include the Coconut Curry Sweet Potato Bowl with sweet potato, basil, carrot, smoked almonds, and tempura flakes in a Coconut Curry Sauce; poke tacos; and hot sides like miso soup, hot garlic ramen noodles, and spicy chili edamame. Available at both Malibu Poke locations.

Slater's 50/50 has debuted a holiday menu with butternut squash soup "shooters,' Christmas tree fondue, sliders, and a Holiday Slider Flight featuring miniature versions of the signature Best Damn Bacon Cheeseburger, plant-based Impossible Meatball burger, and sweet-and-savory PB & Jellousy burger. The Trades Delicatessen team celebrates their win for Best Sandwich.

Dallas' very best restaurants and bars — and the talented pros behind them — were celebrated at the 2026 CultureMap Dallas Tastemaker Awards on Thursday, May 7.

More than 600 food fans and cocktail connoisseurs gathered at Astoria Event Venue in Irving to raise a glass to the city's top restaurants, bars, and culinary masters. But first, they got to eat and drink.

Nominated chefs and restaurants served delectable bites, and hard-working bartenders whipped up cocktails incorporating spirits from the event's sponsors. A portion of the proceeds benefited the our nonprofit partner, Harvest Project Food Rescue.

Lines formed quickly for small plates from some of Dallas' most popular and influential eateries, spread out across the building. Lucky VIP ticketholders got in an hour early to avoid the crowds and enjoy a bar area all their own.

To help wet the whistle, guests could sip brews from Lone Star Beer, still or sparkling water from S.Pellegrino Acqua Panna, mocktails from Ritual Zero Proof and Seedlip, and a popular Bourbon Sour signature cocktail from Maker's Mark Bourbon — all valued sponsors of the event. Other specialty drinks available at the bar featured Maniball Peanut Butter Tequila, Island Getaway Dark Rum, and Woody Creek Vodka. For those who wanted something sparkling, sponsor Shutto, a transportation company, was pouring bubbles.

In the weeks leading up to the big event, we published a special editorial series highlighting nominees. A panel of expert judges helped select all of the winners, except Best New Restaurant, which was determined by our readers in a bracket-style tournament.

The evening's emcee, NBC5 Texas Today host Cleo Greene, announced winners, who came to the stage to accept their glass trophies.

After the awards were handed out, winners posed for photos with colleagues, fellow winners and nominees, and guests eager to find out more about their establishments — and visit them in person.

Between feasting and celebrating, attendees stopped to snap Insta-worthy photos at a photo booth and bought raffle tickets benefiting Harvest Project Food Rescue.

Among the guests spotted in the crowd, having a good time, were: Caleb Wettig, Loren Wettig, Natalie Castlean, Andrew Castlean, Stephen Fagin, Emily Williams, Frank Bliss, Risa Bliss, Jason Harlow, Filipe Harlow, Sky Williams, Bianca Baidoo, Felipe Guiterrez, Carlos Presa, Clara Martinez, Brandt Wood, Megan Wood, LuisPerez, Sarah Perez, and hundreds more.
