Dallas grocer Berkley's Market to open in former Foxtrot space
There's good news on the Dallas grocery front: Berkley’s Market, the neighborhood market known for gourmet goods, is opening a location in Uptown at 2822 McKinney Ave. — in the former Foxtrot Market space.
According to a release, it'll open in the fall.
News of the opening comes on the heels of two closures the chain executed on September 25, when it shut down locations in Oak Cliff and Main Street in downtown Dallas, with a goal to consolidate operations to this more central McKinney Avenue location.
“We’re bringing back a local, neighborhood grocer to McKinney Avenue, in one of the most dynamic areas in Dallas,” says founder Zac Porter. “And this location is perfect for us—it's on the main thoroughfare, halfway between our other two stores, making it an ideal hub for our operations.”
The location will build upon the market’s four main categories—prepared foods, coffee, groceries, and beer & wine. However, it will also serve as a test kitchen, allowing the team to experiment with new prepared food offerings.
“We’re leaning further into our prepared foods program here, while still offering our core favorites,” Porter says. “Our food quality is top-notch, and I’d put our coffee program up against anyone’s. We’ve partnered with La Colombe for our coffee since day one, and we’re proud to source pastries locally from La Casita and bagels from Shug’s.”
In addition to prepared foods, Berkley’s Market offers customers an array of gourmet goods, local items, and conventional necessities. The merchandise is the result of ongoing conversations with customers, ensuring that the shelves are stocked with what the community wants and needs.
Foxtrot is the not-dissimilar urban market chain that entered the Dallas market in 2019, opening its first location at this address at 2822 McKinney Ave., then going on to open three more locations on Greenville Avenue, Knox Street, and on Hillcrest Avenue near SMU. The chain abruptly closed all of its locations in April 2024 in a bankruptcy filing, although it promises to reopen locations in Dallas, exactly where or when, they do not say.
Meanwhile, Berkley’s Market has other new locations in the works.
“At Berkley’s Market, our goal is to be the go-to spot in every neighborhood we serve,” Porter says. “Whether it’s a morning coffee run, lunch or dinner to-go, stocking up their pantry and fridge, or a wine happy hour with friends, we want our customers to feel at home and know they can find everything they need in one place.”
