Closure News
Frisco steakhouse with German beer garden closes after two years
Dallas sees one new steakhouse after another but this is the rare steak-related closure: Hoff's Steaks & Steins, a restaurant and beer garden that opened in Frisco in 2021, has now closed.
Hoff's was from Adrian Creasey, a British-born chef who also owns the similarly-monikered NY Pizza & Pints chain. Creasey was also part of the opening team at Eatzi's and worked for Brinker and Central Market.
He opened Hoff's in 2021 with a spotlight on steaks and craft beer, plus a menu of American and German food.
Creasey blamed the pandemic and its after-effects.
"It's been really hard, from staffing to food costs," he says. "We were trying to hang on, but when everybody went out of town at the beginning of this summer, it put too much pressure on us."
Hoff's was named not for the Hoffbrau chain but for the original Hofbräu concept in Germany featuring a brewery with an attached beer hall and eatery.
The menu included sandwiches, salads, oysters, ribs, wurst plates, and steaks, including a Bavarian Dip sandwich with shaved ribeye, cheese, and horseradish cream on a baguette, served with fries and bone broth dip for $15; and a wurst sandwich with grilled sausage in a baguette served with sauerkraut and spicy mustard for $8.
"Steak & chips" was their their version of steak frites with mesquite-grilled Cowboy steak, fries, and salad with ranch dressing for $17. Sides were very Hill Country, including German potato salad, sauerkraut, and Bavarian-style coleslaw spiked with bacon.
Steak with German food would seem like a slam dunk in these parts, and the prices were extremely affordable.
The final blow seems to have been Father's Day, when the restaurant had a particularly difficult service, with limited staff resulting in long waits.
Creasey says he's talking with a couple investors who want to convert it into something else.
"I still think it's a good concept," Creasey says. "It's a real shame, because we were so close to making it."
