Chef-owned May's Eats in Corinth excels with gourmet takeout and wines

Denton-area residents have it good thanks to May’s Eats Gourmet To Go, a takeout restaurant and caterer at 3400 Corinth Pkwy. #112, in Corinth, where those seeking an instant feast can pick up chef-made meals along with a bottle of wine.
May's offers soups, salads, sandwiches, beer, wine, cocktails, and a variety of chef prepared meals and goodies for the taking.
The shop, which recently won an award for diverse-owned business of the year from the Denton Chamber of Commerce in May, is from married couple Eddie and James Ledesma-Porter, a pair of chefs who previously owned Remington's, a seafood restaurant in Addison, but closed it during the pandemic in 2020.
They opened May's in 2021.
“The balance is a challenge at times, and we wanted to deliver fresh food to Denton and surrounding areas without being a franchise,” Eddie says. “We added the to-go component because of the pandemic — in case it ever happens again."
Catering is also a big part of their business, from lunches to plated dinners to receptions and other events.
Eddie is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) who has worked for restaurants and hotels such as Ocean Prime and The Ritz-Carlton Naples. He also mentors students from the CIA. James has 15-plus years in the hospitality industry, from busser to bartender, general manager to owner.
At May's — named for Eddie's grandmother — they do all the right things: changing their menu with the season, using local and organic ingredients whenever possible. The bread for the Cuban sandwiches, for example, come from Empire Baking Company.

Menu favorites include that Cuban sandwich, their house-made soups, and the Banh May — their version of a banh mi with chicken, pickled carrots, and cucumbers. They also make a mean bourbon banana pudding with crumbled cookies in the center.
Sandwiches include a muffaletta, a Texas Wagyu Korean cheesesteak, and the "ultimate BLT" — whose combination of Pederson's slab bacon, housemade Duke's lemongarlic aioli, bacon butter, Romaine lettuce, and San Marzano tomatoes on thick-cut sourdough bread shows how they're able to elevate even simple concepts by using well-chosen ingredients.
There are plenty of vegan and gluten-free options, from steakhouse-style green beans to Tuscan white bean hummus, and an irresistible-sounding collection of cookies, made with Plugra butter, including heritage oat golden raisin and malted chocolate chip.
Soups and salads start at $5, sandwiches and meals average $10-$14.
Meals that require preparation can be scheduled for pickup through May's Eats Toast website. Dry goods like spreads, olives, jams, pimentos, beer, and 25 wines are available for pickup anytime during their hours Monday-Saturday 11 am-8 pm.
