A restless Dallas restaurant has closed: Nora Restaurant and Bar, the Middle-Eastern concept that served Afghan-inspired food, has closed its location at 205 N. Bishop Ave. after six years.
The announcement of the closure was made in an Instagram post on May 2.
"Goodbyes are not forever. They simply mean: see you soon," the post read. "To our Nora family, thank you for the laughter, the clinking glasses, and the memories that will stay with us forever."
The post also hinted at a reopening, although no location has been determined, no lease has been signed.
Bishop Arts was a second round for the restaurant, which originally opened in 2012 on Greenville Avenue in the space that's now home to Hide bar. It closed and relocated to Bishop Arts in 2019.
Nora was owned by chef and restaurateur Matt Pikar, who also owned Afghan Grill, which he originally opened in to North Dallas in 2007, then closed it in 2014.
It served Afghan-inspired dishes— most under $35— such as chicken korma, dolma, ginger shrimp ceviche, and steamed beef dumplings with yogurt and tomato sauce. There were stews, kebabs, lamb chops, and ribeye. They also served Sunday brunch.
Cocktails came with a Middle Eastern twist, such as the blossom margarita with orange blossom water, agave syrup, basil, and mint; or the chai carajillo with chai, Licor 43, espresso, and rum.
The interior was elevated, yet cozy with contemporary blue and gold seating and decor, plants, and patterned Afghan tapestries and rugs. On the other hand, the indoor bar was small with limited seating. Patio seating was another highlight, with both blue umbrella covered tables and an elevated clear curtained patio bar.
"Thank you for being part of our story," a pop up note on the restaurant's website read. "Here’s to new beginnings—and to seeing you again very soon."
