The 411: Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman dialed up all her most famous athlete friends for her annual gala raising money for youth in the community and to promote healthy lifestyles and educational opportunities for young girls and boys.
The charity serves students across the U.S. with basketball camps, clinics, Dream Courts, college scholarships, and school supply programs. Approximately 85 percent are from low-to-moderate income families.
All proceeds go to Nancy Lieberman Charities which is dedicated to expanding and ensuring that educational and sports opportunities exist for economically disadvantaged youth.
The night of February 18 began with a red carpet walk, where celebrities such as actor Burton Gilliam (Blazing Saddles, Fletch), ESPN SportsCenter anchor Jay Harris, and country singer Imaj mingled with an array of athletes from all disciplines.
The inside of the Bomb Factory was turned into a giant supper club, where attendees watched Lieberman present the honored NBA champion Julius "Dr. J" Erving with a Trailblazer Award, and actor-musician Ice Cube with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
A who's-who of award-winning athletes turned out including pro football Hall of Famer and two-time Super Bowl Champion Deion Sanders, Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer Rick Barry, Hockey Hall of Famer and Dallas Stars Stanley Cup-winning goalie Ed Belfour, Hall of Famer Tim Brown of the Oakland Raiders, Homer Bush, 1998 World Series champion & former New York Yankee, and Rick Carlisle, Dallas Mavericks' head coach.
But there's more: Olympic shot putter and current Olympic women's champion Michelle Carter, former Boston Celtic Ryan Gomes, former Texas Rangers pitcher Jose Guzman, Hall of Famer and five-time Super Bowl champion Charles Haley, former NBA Coach of the Year and VP of the G-League Texas Legends Del Harris, four-time NBA all-star and chairman of the NBRPA Spencer Haywood, and former Houston Rocket Cuttino Mobley.
Dallas Cowboys in the house included two-time Super Bowl Champion Preston Pearson, former wide receiver Patrick Crayton, former defensive lineman Jason Hatcher, Super Bowl champion Ed "Too Tall" Jones, safety Kavon Frazier, and former linebackers Angelo King and Eugene Lockhart.
