We remember elementary school recess fondly. And the Dallas AfterSchool Network was intent on re-creating that feeling at its first-ever Recess fundraiser.
Kate Rose Marquez and Julie Bagley co-chaired the soiree, held at the home of philanthropist Faye Briggs. To celebrate the organization's good work, more than 200 guests — including honorary chairs Sally and Forrest Hoglund, Lynn and Allan McBee, Anne Reeder, Amanda and Mark Francis, Stephanie and Scott Phillips, Tracy Madans, and Kathy and Richard Holt — sipped on hopscotches and monkey bars (courtesy of Moet Henessey) and dined on cafeteria-style food.
As for fundraising, guests bid on luxury travel packages and more in a field trip auction and had some fun with a sandbox prize game. They bought chances to dig in the sand to unearth buried coins that matched up to various prizes, including an iPad and Nike and Highland Park Village gift cards.
All tallied, Recess raised $165,000 for Dallas AfterSchool Network, which helps afterschool sites serving low-income youth in our community achieve national quality standards for the benefit of the children they serve.
