Venus Williams guarantees grand slam for this girl-power Dallas luncheon
The Junior League of Dallas is looking for a grand slam at this year’s Milestones Luncheon, taking place November 16 at the Hilton Anatole. And given that the keynote speaker is tennis sensation and Olympic gold medalist Venus Williams, we’re pretty sure it's going to succeed.
“As a woman who promotes excellence and strives to empower others, there is no one more fitting to fill the role as featured speaker,” said president of the Junior League of Dallas Bonner Allen in a release. “Venus has defied the odds to reach her dream and is now using her platform in a positive way. Her message directly aligns with the league’s mission of developing the potential of women.”
An annual fundraiser and favorite on the fall charity circuit, the Milestones Luncheon always features an impressive speaker (to wit, last year it was Jenna Bush Hagar). The luncheon benefits the Junior League of Dallas Community Service Fund and also helps raise awareness for the programs that the JLD supports. It also serves as a way to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its volunteers, including Linda McFarland, who will be honored as the 2016-2017 Sustainer of the Year, and Caren Prothro, who will be presented with the 95th Anniversary Lifetime Achievement Award.
Founded in 1922 and now in its 95th year, Junior League Dallas is the largest Junior League in the world, as well as the largest and oldest training organization for women in Dallas. The JLD provides more than 100,000 hours in volunteer service and $1 million in funding to area nonprofits each year.
The Milestones Luncheon is November 16, at 11 am, in the Chantilly Ballroom at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. Tickets begin at $175, and sponsorships begin at $3,000. To purchase tables or individual tickets, call 214-357-8822, ext. 118.
