Basketball's Royal Baby
It's a girl for Dallas Maverick Dirk Nowitzki and wife Jessica Olsson
Never mind that other royal baby: Jessica Olsson, wife of Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki, gave birth to a baby girl on July 24.
Fittingly, given Nowitzki's German heritage, the news was broken by a German newspaper, Bild.de, with the headline "Nowitzki ist Papa." Olsson had the baby via Caesarean section, reportedly at Plano Presbyterian Hospital. "Having my own family has always been my big dream," Nowitzki said.
Fellow Mavericks player Jason Terry was first to offer congratulations via Twitter: "Congrats to @swish41 #bigpoppa."
His father, Jörg, was quoted as saying that he was proud to be a grandfather for the third time; Nowitzki's sister Silke has two children.
The birth was confirmed by the Mavericks management. Fellow Mavericks player Jason Terry was the first to offer a congratulations via Twitter. "Congrats to @swish41 #bigpoppa," he tweeted.
Nowitzki and Olsson were married in July 2012 in Kenya, in a traditional African wedding.
The couple hasn't divulged the baby's name. But FYI, "George Alexander Louis" — the name chosen for the royal baby by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, a.k.a. Prince William and Kate Middleton — is already taken.
