    Where to shop now

Where to shop in Dallas right now: 8 must-hit stores for December

    Diana Oates
    Dec 9, 2019 | 1:50 pm

Give us all the things. No, really. How can anyone go to to one of these stores and not be tempted to shop for themselves in addition to all of those on their Christmas lists? Haven't gotten started on your holiday shopping yet? Don't worry. Amazon Prime is alive and well, but shopping is so much more fun when it's done in person. Many of the stores on this month's list are pop-up shops, so hit them before they're gone. Cheers, Dallas shoppers.

    Away
Experience a better way to travel without leaving Dallas when you give this pop-up shop on Knox Street a visit between now and January 5. The brand is gearing up for its opening by offering a sneak peek of the store that brings the best in luggage and other travel accessories. A permanent shop will open in the same space in early 2020.

    Kathy Fielder
This beloved lifestyle boutique recently relocated across the street, to 1915 Greenville Ave., in the former Transit Bike Shop location. Shoppers can expect the same on-trend and affordable fashions, in addition to the home decor that has kept Dallas designer Kathy Fielder feeling like Greenville Avenue is home for her brand.

    La Vie Style House Pop-Up
This Dallas-based brand is giving the people what they have been desperately wanting — a local pop-up. Nestled in Highland Park Village between Etro and Valentino, it offers fashionistas the chance to fawn over a selection of luxury caftans and kimonos through December 31. Although these luxury pieces are handmade in the United States, each is inspired by world travels. And the fact that they are one-size-fits-all makes them the perfect gift to give the glam gal in your life this holiday season.

    Mod + Jo
Branded as "progressive and quality jewelry for modern babes," this quirky line recently opened its first brick-and-mortar shop in Bishop Arts across from Hola Cafe. The boutique is bursting with necklaces, rings, and earrings to complement every look. In addition to offering a chance to see and shop the collection in person, the owner will also offer ring-making classes to the public.

    Res Ipsa
Located in the former On The Border space on Knox Street, this pop-up is all about making new things from old things. Think slippers, sneakers, and even chukka boots made from vintage Turkish rugs. You can also shop luggage, bags, wallets, key chains, and more. This Aspen-based brand is staying put in the Dallas boutique only until December 31.

    Tootsies
Shop the store's first-ever museum-styled gift shop offering presents starting at just $25. You can expect everything from essential oils to chocolates. Basically it's a well-edited selection of the store's favorite things to save you the time it usually takes to agonize over what to get each person on your list. (We'll take a Nest Liquidness Diffuser, please and thank you.) Also, brides, Tootsies is hosting two special events for your big day, 10 am-7 pm December 13 and 14. A trunk show by coveted designer Monique Lhuillier will take place at the store for the first time ever, and Lisette Polny will be on hand to show off her Zofia Day holiday collection.

    Unbranded
Returning for its fifth year in downtown Dallas, this holiday pop-up shop is better than ever. Located in the historic Dallas Power & Light Building, this marketplace of merch provides free retail space to a rotating group of designers, artists, and entrepreneurs for three weeks. Score everything from jewelry to artwork and even children's gifts now through December 21. Check out the lineup of vendors here.

    Y&I Clothing Plano
The West Village is not the only place in DFW to shop this boutique that offers fabulous finds on a budget. Robin Boesch and Robyn Sribhen White recently opened a second location at The Shops at Legacy that features 1,120 square feet of fun and flirty fashion. Whether you are on the hunt for that darling date-night dress or the perfect pair of earrings to complete your look, this new store is stacked with great finds for fall (and beyond).

Shop the La Vie Style House pop-up at Highland Park Village now through December 31.

An Asian spa is about to celebrate a grand reopening: Spa Castle Texas, located in Carrollton at 1020 Raiford Rd., will re-open on January 1, 2026, following a multi-million-dollar renovation.

Established in 2012 as a retreat combining traditional Korean bathhouse culture with modern resort amenities, the facility closed in late July with a plan to bring refreshed pools, enhanced saunas, modernized locker rooms, and hydrotherapy systems.

The renovation was designed to elevate performance, reliability, and the guest experience, while staying true to its Korean “jjimjilbang” roots.

A jjimjilbang is a large, 24-hour Korean public bathhouse and spa featuring gender-segregated wet areas with hot tubs and saunas, plus unisex zones with themed dry saunas like clay and ice rooms. Some also have snack bars, sleeping areas, and entertainment options like TV lounges or PC rooms. In Korea, it functions an affordable destination for families and a cultural hub for relaxation, socializing, and wellness.

Dallas has not only Spa Castle but also King Spa, a similar facility that opened in 2008 on Royal Lane in Dallas' Koreatown district. There is also a Spa Castle in New York.

Highlights of Spa Castle's renovation in Dallas include:

    • Re-Engineered Hydrotherapy Experience: Upgrades to indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and hydrotherapy systems to deliver a more authentic Korean bathhouse experience.
    • Reimagined food and beverage menus featuring traditional Korean street food, barbecue, and beverages.

A day pass is $65 for adults on weekdays and $80 on weekends; for 17 and under, it's $45.

    Phase II
The re-opening marks the completion of Phase I of Spa Castle’s renovation.

Phase II, slated for spring 2026, will include upgrades to the on-site boutique hotel and the expansive 8,000-square-foot banquet and event space, to position Spa Castle as a destination for weddings, corporate retreats, and special events.
