One Asian restaurant is out, but another is in. Red Stix Asian Street Food, the food stand from the irrepressible restaurateur Uno Immanivong, is leaving Legacy Hall in Plano on March 24 to expand into a freestanding, brick-and-mortar location near Southern Methodist University.
In its place, the Plano food hall will add a new concept called Beijing Brothers, a Texas-based Chinese restaurant created by Yang Sun and Willy Lu. According to a a release, the new restaurant will open in mid-April.
Immanivong, who previously owned Chino Chinatown at Dallas' Trinity Groves, says that the Plano food hall was a good interim step.
"Red Stix Asian Street Food was one of the first restaurant partners to open at Legacy Hall more than a year ago," she says. "This was a perfect way to launch our brand, and the lessons learned from my time there have helped prepare me for this next chapter. I’m excited about expanding from just 315 square feet into my new full-service Red Stix concept and introducing a whole new community to the delicious tastes of yakitori."
Beijing Brother's specialty will be Peking duck. The menu will feature items prepared using traditional Chinese methods and authentic ingredients such as hand pulled noodles and Yangzhou fried rice.
The menu will include bowls beginning at $7 that can be topped with protein for $2.50 and Peking duck, served with fried rice, hand-pulled noodles, or stir-fried noodles.
It will open Sunday-Wednesday from 10 am-10 pm, and later on weekends, Thursday-Saturday from 10 am-midnight.
"Bringing Beijing Brothers to Legacy Hall is our chance to give more diners a true taste of authentic Chinese food," says Lu. "We're looking forward to sharing our time-honored recipes with a whole new audience."
According to Immanivong, Red Stix will open in June at 6501 Hillcrest Ave. with an expanded menu that includes bento boxes to go, plus sauces for sale such as sweet & sour and yuzu ponzu. A second location will follow in December, in a new development in Farmers Branch called Mustang Station.
