It's no surprise the Nature Conservancy of Texas (TNC) chose to celebrate its annual spring party at the flower-filled Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. The Ginsburg Plaza set an elegant scene for the more than 300 guests who joined TNC staff from around the state.
Befitting the theme "For People of Courage and Action, All Things Are Possible," the featured speaker was adventurer Peter Hillary, son of the late Sir Edmund Hillary, who was the first to summit Mount Everest.
Hillary, who supports the Himalayan Trust and serves as executive director of the Australian Himalayan Foundation, showed clips of his own Everest ascent. He also presented his documentary, Beyond the Edge, which explores his father's epic journey alongside Tenzing Norgay back in May 1953. It was the first time the film was shown publicly.
Later, TNC Texas state director Lara Huffman spoke about the Texas Legislature's passing a package of bills that includes a $2 billion investment in a water plan, funding for water conservation, and guidelines to assure the investment is well-spent.
Among the nature lovers on the scene: Vera and Bob Thornton, Lori Green, Wayne Sanders, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Trisha Wilson, Janet and Chuck Jarvie, and Abe Studer.
