Hotel Palomar hosts pups and friends for SPCA of Texas happy hour
Dogs of all sizes and breeds and their human companions partied at Hotel Palomar’s pet-friendly happy hour benefiting the SPCA of Texas Tuesday night. Among the treats: beef-broth snow cones from Enticed shaved ice truck, which were offered upon donating to the SPCA.
While the grown-ups sipped on vino and “Hibiscuit Smash” cocktails and noshed on tasty bites from Central 214, Higgins — the hotel’s ambassador beagle — made new four-legged friends inside the elegant hotel lobby.
As hotel staff refilled doggie bowls and passed around treats, SPCA of Texas president James Bias and friends — Todd Rogers, Mark Evans, Jessica and Kevin Beals, Cyndi Phelps, and Andrew Bottomley — stopped to marvel at the dog costumes.
Particularly impressive were Kathy Oszustowicz’s Boston terrier Pokey in a pink polka-dot outfit; Paige Mayeux’s dog Sumo in butterfly wings; Stephanie Thornhill’s poodle Baxter in plaid pants; and Natalie McDaniel, who wore a red-and-white ensemble to match her dog Henry’s.
Sam Tucker, Hotel Palomar’s director of sales and marketing, gathered all of the doggies to announce the winners of the best-dressed awards. Pokey took home the grand prize, but Sumo came in a close second.
As the crowd cheered and barked, each winner received a patterned tote and a Hotel Palomar gift certificate to use toward an overnight stay.
