    This Week In Gluttony

Chocolate and ice cream sweeten this week's best Dallas food events

    Diana Oates
    Sep 8, 2015 | 6:00 am

Everyone will find something they like to eat in this week’s food events roundup. There's ice cream, wine, beer, chocolate, and okra on full display for all to enjoy. And if you like your food accompanied by a little football, you can make your way to a philanthropic feast before the Cowboys take the field.

    Tuesday, September 8

The Ultimate Adult Ice Cream Social at Remedy
The evening starts with beverage director Máté Hartai explaining his master process for making everything from sodas to syrups before toasting with a few of his signature drinks. Executive chef Danyele McPherson then talks all things frosty and sweet and what it takes to craft the perfect frozen treat. Sample her signature ice cream and taste the difference with build-your-own ice cream sundaes. The event starts at 6 pm, and tickets are $50.

    Friday, Saturday 11

Sommelier Selected Wine Tasting at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse
Whether cutting-edge or classic, the new wines these sommeliers are finding ignite their passion and pique their curiosity. This tasting event highlights some of Pappas Bros. current favorites, including wines from Australia, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and South Africa. Heavy hors d’oeuvre accompany each flight. The event starts promptly at 6 pm and costs $65. Reservations can be made by calling 214-366-2000.

    Saturday, September 12

Brewfest 2015 at Dallas Farmers Market
This outdoor beer-sampling event and festival features more than 200 beers from around the globe, local food vendors, and live music. Twelve 2-ounce beer samples are included in the ticket price, and VIP tickets include a dozen 2-ounce beer samplings plus entry into event one hour earlier at 6 pm and access to the VIP area with liquor sampling and exclusive catered food. The event starts at 7 pm for general admission, and tickets start at $31.

Dallas Chocolate Festival at Addison Conference Center
Celebrate chocolate makers and chocolatiers that have elevated their craft to an art form. The event showcases everything from beautifully painted bonbons to imaginative chocolate sculptures and several bean-to-bar artisans in between. Vendors include CocoAndré Chocolatier, Dallas Caramel Company, Toffee Treats, Chocolates El Rey, Nib Chocolates, and Bisous Bisous Patisserie. The 2:30 pm entry time still has tickets for sale for $25. This event usually sells out, so don't delay in buying your tickets.

    Sunday, September 13

    Okrapalooza at The Lot
At this veggie-centric event, Dallas celebrity chefs come together to compete in an okra cookoff. All proceeds benefit the Promise of Peace Community Gardens, which provides horticulture programming and education to at-risk youth, communities, and families within Dallas. The event starts at 1 pm, and tickets cost $45.

Touchdown Tailgate Tasting at Expressions Home Gallery
Local chefs battle it out in the kitchen to put their spin on traditional tailgate food. Participating chefs include Anastacia Quinones (Kitchen LTO), Danyele McPherson (Remedy), Jacob Williamson (Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck), Nathan Tate (Rapscallion), and Patton Robertson (Sissy’s Southern Kitchen). Specialty cocktails are being crafted by Leprechaun Premium Hard Cider and Reilly’s Whiskey. All proceeds benefit Cafe Momentum. The event starts at 1 pm, and tickets are $50.

Kate Weiser Chocolates is just one of the dozens of vendors participating at Chocolate Fest at Addison Conference Center on September 12.

Healthy cafe Toastique brings fancy toasts and smoothies to Uptown Dallas

Toastique, a D.C.-born cafe chain known for its fancy toasts, healthy juices, and smoothie bowls, is set to open its doors in Uptown Dallas’ West Village development next month.

According to a release, the cafe will debut at 3839 McKinney Ave., Suite 135, in Uptown, on Saturday, February 21. It’s the third Dallas-area location for Toastique, joining restaurants in Addison and Flower Mound.

The chain got its start in Washington, D.C., when former collegiate cheerleader Brianna Keefe opened the first location in 2018. It’s since expanded to a number of restaurants across the country, including Texas outposts in El Paso and Austin.

The Uptown Dallas location will be operated by locals Dilpreet Singh and Brinderjeet Sidhu, who chose the West Village space in part because of its proximity to the Katy Trail, which attracts 4 million runners, walkers, and other healthy types a year — the perfect clientele for a restaurant focused on healthy eats like smoothie bowls, fresh-pressed juices, and of course, the namesake toasts.

“We believe Toastique and the mission of the brand fits in perfectly with the West Village and couldn’t be more excited to see our neighbors enjoy our menu, whether stopping in after a workout or meeting friends to catch up,” Sidhu says in a release.

Toastique’s menu includes a variety of sweet and savory toasts, including a riff on the ubiquitous avocado toast topped with watermelon radish and chili oil, and the PB Crunch Toast, loaded with bananas, granola, berry jam, and honey-roasted peanut butter.

Protein waffles, smoothies, and juices are also on the menu, along with slices of plain ol’ toast in four different flavors (including a gluten-free option) for the picky eaters in your crew.

The cafe also boasts an extensive coffee menu, which includes classic hot and iced beverages like Americanos and lattes alongside collagen-spiked creations like a blueberry-lavender latte made with almond milk and fresh berries. There’s also nitro cold brew, chai tea, matcha, and iced tea on offer, along with fresh coconut water, wellness shots, and bottled juices to take home and consume later.

The first 50 toast fans in line on opening day, February 21, at the West Village debut will receive $50 in Toastique rewards to use on future purchases at the restaurant. They’ll also run a full week of specials to celebrate the grand opening, including $5 juice on tap on Monday, February 23, and $6 smoothies that Wednesday.
