Texas Business Hall of Fame honors women wonders behind 2014 inductees
As the saying goes, behind every great man is a great woman, and the Texas Business Hall of Fame agrees. Which is why the organization threw a ladies-only event at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek to celebrate the spouses of this year’s hall of fame inductees.
The 2014 chairman’s wife, Donna Cowman, served as hostess for the luncheon, where attendees enjoyed shrimp cocktail, steak and, perhaps most important, champagne for toasting. Past chairman Amy Chronis also spoke to the group about the organization’s dual mission of recognizing Texas business legends and propelling today’s students to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.
“This event was a way for the ladies who are a part of and support the Texas Business Hall of Fame to come together in honor of the spouses of this year’s inductees,” Chronis said. “Because of you, this year has been a groundbreaking year for the Texas Business Hall of Fame. We’ve added 10 new scholarships, a record number of directors, and broken all of our fundraising and tables sales goals for the annual induction dinner.”
Those honored included the following:
- Annette Simmons (wife of Harold Simmons, posthumously)
- Jan Rees-Jones (wife of Trevor Rees-Jones)
- Amy Warren (wife of Kelcy Warren)
- Susan Marinis Evans (wife of Donald Evans)
- Kelli Ford (wife of Gerald “Jerry” Ford)
- Martha Hawthorne (wife of Doug Hawthorne)
Among the guests were spouses of past honorees —including Gene Jones, Toni Brinker Pickens, Lana Andrews, Tandy Mitchell and Sammye Myers —who showed up in support of the wives whose husbands will be honored at the 32nd annual induction dinner at the Hilton Anatole on November 5.
The Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation was created in 1982 by a small group of Texas business men and women to focus awareness on the positive achievements made by outstanding business legends and to honor their contributions to their community and their state.
