Where to shop in Dallas right now: 8 must-hit stores for October

Diana Oates
Oct 16, 2020 | 3:27 pm

Can we all agree that October is the best weather month in Dallas? Or are we unable to agree on even that these days? Regardless of what you are wearing this month — sweaters and boots or sundresses and sandals — there is something on this list that'll excite you. From a true Dallas darling creating couture gowns to wild and cray caftans at a fabulous flagship in Highland Park Village, the gang's all here.

Billy Reid
The Alabama-based fashion designer has returned to Dallas to open a new boutique in NorthPark Center, on level one in between Nordstrom and Macy's. Billy Reid is known for clothing and accessories crafted with high-quality fabrics, unexpected detailing, and careful consideration given to every button, thread, and stitch. The new boutique, which opened October 8, sells both men's and women's clothing. Cashmere tee or quilted jacket anyone? Read more about the new shop here.

Byredo
Known for luxurious scents and lifestyle products, the European brand is opening its first concept in Texas at NorthPark Center, on level one between Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. The shop features fragrances, candles, home goods, eyewear, and Byredo’s newly launched makeup collection.

Dondolo + Pencil & Paper Co.
Dallas' beloved children's clothing company is introducing Dondolo Mommy and Me this season. The new collaboration with Pencil + Paper Co. features gorgeous dresses and heirloom pieces for both boys and girls. Even better? A portion of the proceeds from each Dondolo purchase supports organizations that help mothers and their children.

Frame
It's not new to Dallas or even Highland Park Village, but the London-based brand that is all about the French "dressed-up casual" look is making its move over to a permanent location between St. Michael's Woman's Exchange and Bird Bakery this month.

Hadleigh's
The Highland Park Village custom clothier has a lot happening this fall. For starters, customers can now design their own slippers down to the canvas color and personal monogram. Headed to an intimate gathering or need to create a fabulous gown for the next big wedding or gala? Gable Shaikh is now officially launching her custom gown services, too.

Hari Mari
The Dallas-based footwear brand just launched a new fall collection and is using it to raise awareness for a new focus: truth and redemption in the criminal justice system. The face of the men's boot collection campaign is athlete Greg Kelley, who was wrongfully convicted of child sexual assault and is the subject of Showtime's documentary Outcry. Prices range from $120-$220. Read more about the collection and campaign here.

La Vie Style House
These chic caftans have finally found a permanent home in Highland Park Village. Owner Lindsey McClain and Jamie Coulter have opened the doors to this perfectly posh, pink shop next to Deno's. In addition to caftans, La Vie offers oversized button downs, kimonos, and even dusters. Read more about it here.

The Pillow Bar
Dallas favorite The Pillow Bar will open a pop-up shop next to The Linen Boutique in the Pavilion Shopping Center, 5600 W. Lovers Ln., from October 19-December 31. For the first time ever, the pop-up will display the complete selection of The Pillow Bar products for customers to see and touch before they place custom orders. Use a Partners Card benefiting The Family Place, October 30-November 8, to receive 20 percent off everything. Hours are 10 am-4 pm Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday.

Pick up some new PJ's at The Pillow Bar pop-up.

An Asian spa is about to celebrate a grand reopening: Spa Castle Texas, located in Carrollton at 1020 Raiford Rd., will re-open on January 1, 2026, following a multi-million-dollar renovation.

Established in 2012 as a retreat combining traditional Korean bathhouse culture with modern resort amenities, the facility closed in late July with a plan to bring refreshed pools, enhanced saunas, modernized locker rooms, and hydrotherapy systems.

The renovation was designed to elevate performance, reliability, and the guest experience, while staying true to its Korean “jjimjilbang” roots.

A jjimjilbang is a large, 24-hour Korean public bathhouse and spa featuring gender-segregated wet areas with hot tubs and saunas, plus unisex zones with themed dry saunas like clay and ice rooms. Some also have snack bars, sleeping areas, and entertainment options like TV lounges or PC rooms. In Korea, it functions an affordable destination for families and a cultural hub for relaxation, socializing, and wellness.

Dallas has not only Spa Castle but also King Spa, a similar facility that opened in 2008 on Royal Lane in Dallas' Koreatown district. There is also a Spa Castle in New York.

Highlights of Spa Castle's renovation in Dallas include:

  • Re-Engineered Hydrotherapy Experience: Upgrades to indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and hydrotherapy systems to deliver a more authentic Korean bathhouse experience.
  • Reimagined food and beverage menus featuring traditional Korean street food, barbecue, and beverages.

A day pass is $65 for adults on weekdays and $80 on weekends; for 17 and under, it's $45.

Phase II
The re-opening marks the completion of Phase I of Spa Castle’s renovation.

Phase II, slated for spring 2026, will include upgrades to the on-site boutique hotel and the expansive 8,000-square-foot banquet and event space, to position Spa Castle as a destination for weddings, corporate retreats, and special events.
