United Way kickoff honors big-deal Dallas sports stars at Look Cinemas
The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas kickoff was a star-studded affair at Look Cinemas. This cocktail party was part of a year-long celebration leading up to the organization's 90th anniversary in February 2014.
The kickoff was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the NFL’s partnership with United Way Worldwide. Hosted by Scott Murray, the event showcased the Dallas Cowboys featured in the United Way’s past award-winning public service announcements. The Cowboys have had more players participate in United Way PSA's than another team in the NFL.
United Way of Metropolitan Dallas CEO and president Jennifer Sampson welcomed guests in honoring former Dallas Cowboys TonyDorsett (United Way PSA 1981), Emmitt Smith (United Way PSA 1994) and Roger Staubach (United Way PSA 1974 & 1993). Murray then led a panel featuring Dorsett, Smith and Gayla Vaughn (standing in for Staubach) to talk about the importance of the United Way and specifically its special partnership with the NFL.
Joining anniversary co-chairs Troy Aikman and Charlotte Jones Anderson were Tom Stephenson, Sara and Gary Ahr, Dr. Kenneth Cooper, Tom Falk, Debra and Clint McDonnough, Anne and Alan Motsenbocker, Barbara Rabin, Debra and Ken von Storch, Randy Tomlin, Capa Mooty, Debra Brennan, and Gwen and Lel Echols.
The United Way is one of the largest non-governmental funders of programs, investing nearly $50 million in Dallas, Collin, Rockwall and southern Denton counties.
