1. Taco Cabana closes 19 restaurants including Lower Greenville store. The parent company of Taco Cabana has closed 19 locations, all in Texas. Four stores in the Dallas area closed, including the key location on Dallas' Lower Greenville. The No. 1 question that was posed was, "What's going to happen to the Tango Frogs?" According to a statement from Taco Cabana, the outcome of the Tango Frogs is still TBD.
2. Dallas billionaire ranks among 10 best bosses at Fortune 100 companies. Dallas pipeline executive Kelcy Warren has already struck it rich on the Forbes 400 list, and now he's earning accolades as a top leader among the nation's largest companies. A new ranking of the top 10 CEOs at Fortune 100 companies puts Warren, chairman and CEO of Dallas-based pipeline company Energy Transfer Partners, in the No. 8 slot, just two notches below Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.
3. Favorite Texas market topples Trader Joe's as No. 1 grocery store. For fans of grocery chain H-E-B, “No store does more than my H-E-B” goes far beyond an advertising slogan. It’s a mantra. And a new national ranking proves it. In the newly released Retailer Preference Index from consumer research firm Dunnhumby, San Antonio-based H-E-B (parent company of Central Market) knocks Trader Joe’s from its two-year perch atop the list.
4. Cattle Baron's wrangles country star and new venue for 2020 Dallas ball. The Dallas party of the year is packing up and moving to Frisco. Cattle Baron's Ball 2020 will take place at The Star in Frisco — home of the Dallas Cowboys — with country star Dierks Bentley as the Main Stage entertainer.
5. New Netflix hit show puts North Texas' Navarro College cheerleaders on the mat. Netflix crew found its way to tiny Corsicana, Texas for a reality show about cheerleading, and America is flipping out. Cheer, a six-episode series about Navarro College Cheer Team’s 2019 quest to win its 14th national championship, started streaming January 8. Less than a week later, it had earned a 100 percent rating from critics and 93 percent from audience members on Rotten Tomatoes.
