Celebrity designer does bespoke baubles at first-of-its-kind Forty Five Ten event
Leave it to Brian Bolke to get haute jeweler designer Kimberly McDonald to do something she’s never done before. A trunk show and personal appearance isn’t anything out of the ordinary. But throw in a bespoke element, and now it’s something special.
On March 28 and 29, McDonald joins Bolke at Forty Five Ten to give Dallasites the rare opportunity to create custom jewelry in her signature style. The New York-based designer is known for statement-making pieces featuring materials such as agates, geodes, raw diamonds and emeralds, and baroque pearls. She counts Michelle Obama, Minnie Driver, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Adams and Blake Lively among her celebrity clients.
“This is the first time Kimberly has done this,” Bolke said. “We have so many clients that want very special, custom pieces and really enjoy the design process.”
Trunk show attendees not only get to meet McDonald, but they can also work directly with her in choosing loose geodes, diamonds, materials (such as all colors of 18-karat gold or black rhodium) and settings to make their own macramés, studs, wire cuffs, pendants, or single or double drops. This is true start-to-finish customization.
“One of the most interesting aspects of this event is that the geodes, for which Kimberly is most known, come in pairs,” Bolke added. “You can create a ‘mother-daughter’ or ‘couple’ set, to have matching pieces that are two halves of a whole.
“I gave a pair of matching geode bracelets to a special couple getting married. It was perfect.”
