Target to open 2 stores in Dallas including shopping center in Oak Cliff
To the delight of Oak Cliff residents, a Target store is coming to the neighborhood.
The Minneapolis-based chain is opening a store at 655 W. Illinois Ave., in the beloved Wynnewood Village neighborhood shopping center at the northwest corner of Zang Boulevard, where it will join stores such as Kroger, Ross, Five Below, and LA Fitness.
A Target spokesperson said in a statement that the opening date was still TBD.
"We're excited to bring an easy and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the Dallas community in the coming years with this new Target store," the statement said. "As we get closer to opening the store, we’ll have more specific details to share — including how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests and the grand opening date."
A story by Fox 4 says it's coming in two years. The store was listed on Target's website on March 1 but has since been removed. Too soon, maybe.
It'll be in a space next to the LA Fitness that was previously set to house a movie theater, and will span about 111,000 square feet — smaller than a regular Target store (130,000 feet), and way smaller than the 150,000-square-foot larger store the company introduced in 2022. But double the size of the small-format stores Target has recently introduced, such as the one that opened in Preston Center in 2018 with approximately 54,700 square feet. So many Target sizes.
The company recently announced that it plans to open about 20 new stores in a variety of sizes, stating that the new stores would include design elements that reflect the local community.
There are currently 20 stores in the Dallas area, including one other Target store in southern Dallas at Wheatland Towne Crossing.
They're also opening a store in Prosper, at Highway 380 and Preston Road. That one's a biggie: 140,000 square feet.
