If you're hungering for dining news, you've come to the right place. Dallas restaurants are hopping, with a seemingly never-ending pipeline of new openings, new dishes, and new cocktails. There's news about pizza, burgers, cakes, ice cream, and brunch.

Here's what's happening in Dallas restaurant news:

Cannon's Corner Irish Pub will open in Oak Cliff, in a historic building at 1314 W. Davis St. on May 16. Owner Alan Kearney brings his authentic Irish background and appreciation for community, which he's honed at Irish spots such as Crafty Irishman in downtown Dallas and The Playwright in One Arts Plaza. Built in 1922 and renovated in 2014, the distinctive building is known as Cannon’s Village after Cannon’s 5-Cent store became the anchor tenant in the 1950s. The menu includes Scotch eggs, corned beef cabbage & rolls, onion rings, sandwiches, salads, burgers, shepherd's pie with lamb, beer-battered fish & chips, bangers & mash, corned beef, and Irish stew. All-day breakfast items include the traditional Irish breakfast with eggs, Irish bacon, sausage, black & white pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, hash, and brown bread. There'll be more than 25 Irish beers on tap and 200 Irish whiskey and scotches.

Mixt, the California chain known for salads and grain bowls, opens its first location in Texas at McKinney & Olive in Uptown Dallas on May 15. They're partnering with Bonton Farms and collaborating with local startup Fusion to reduce and recycle food waste. They'll host a grand opening event with samples and tote bag giveaways.

Miriam Cocina Latina, the newest concept from Shannon Wynne and chef Miriam Jimenez, is now open in the former Lark on the Park space across from Klyde Warren Park, where it's open daily for lunch and dinner. Offerings include guacamole, brisket tacos, chicken enchiladas, combination plates such as spinach enchilada with shrimp taco, main courses such as chicken poblano and carne asada, and tres leches cake and bread pudding for dessert.

Flower Child is blooming as the third Dallas location opened on May 14 in Preston Royal Village. The healthy and happy fast-casual restaurant from Sam Fox Restaurants is located at 5959 Royal Lane. Flower Child is on a soul-satisfying mission to radiate positively delicious vibes throughout DFW, whether guests are looking for a leisure, relaxed meal or quick healthy bite on the go.

Melt Ice Creams from Fort Worth has opened a 550-square-foot shop in Dallas inside the Side Dough spot at Eno's Pizza Tavern in Bishop Arts. They're serving six flavors: Beans, Chocolate Chocolate, Cookie Crack, Saltlick, Cup of TX, Velvet Vegan, and the Always Sammie, which are also carried in the Fort Worth’s Near Southside location and Sundance Square cart. The new locale is scooping five additional seasonal ice cream flavors and locally-infused concoctions.

The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill, a Greek chain that made its Texas debut in February with a location at 3750 Plano Pkwy. in The Colony, will open a second location in Frisco. It'll open at the Main Marketplace at 1654 FM 423, in early summer. Great Greek features wraps, salads, gyros, and souvlaki — aka skewers, of lamb, chicken, steak, and shrimp over rice. You can get shaved gyro meat with choice of rice pilaf, fries, or "feta fries," which are exactly as they sound: fries topped with feta cheese. Two vegetarian entrees include a falafel plate and a mezze platter with grape leaves, falafel, hummus, and spanikopita.

Dallas Grilled Cheese Company has launched a new food truck called the Cheesemobile that will make local appearances and can also be booked for private events. The truck will make its debut on May 16 at Bishop Cider Company's Cidercade in the Design District from 6-11 pm, and with a return engagement scheduled there for June 1.

Olive Garden opened a new restaurant in Grand Prairie featuring the company’s latest restaurant design and logo. It's located at 3138 S. Highway 161. The new restaurant, which brought approximately 150 jobs to the area, will feature Olive Garden’s latest design with new artwork, fabrics and materials, lighting, seating, countertops and flooring, as well as a display of the new “Olive Garden Italian Kitchen” logo sign.

Marco's Pizza, a national chain headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, has opened a new location in Irving at 6941 Riverside Dr. There are 21 branches in the DFW area, and another set to open soon on Coit Road in Plano.

Alamo Club, the neighborhood restaurant and bar on Greenville Avenue, is now serving weekend brunch. Appetizers include queso riva, pink dip, artichoke spinach dip, shells + cheddar, and chicken with hot gravy. Entrees include French toast; skillet with potatoes, pastrami, bell pepper, onion, and spicy gravy; bacon cheddar burger with arugula, tomato, onion, and aioli; omelet with bacon, cheddar, tomato, and green onion; tacos with potato, egg, cheese, and choice of bacon, pastrami, or chorizo. Salads include a wedge and a Caesar with chicken, corn, avocado, and jalapeño Caesar dressing. Bevs include blood orange mimosa carafe, bloody Mary, screwdriver, margaria, and the patio banger with whiskey, lemon, cardamom, and ginger beer. Hours are Saturday-Sunday, 11 am-4 pm.

Felix Culpa on Henderson Avenue has hired executive chef Johnnie Walker, who has rolled out new menu items. Walker moved to Dallas in 2012 and has worked for Sushi Marquee and Lombardi Family Concepts. His new menu items include tuna tartare, beet hummus, shishito pepper trio, a daily chef’s choice of ravioli, halibut with sunburst squash and rice pilaf, lamb chop with parmesan polenta cake, and an ice cream sundae with two scoops of Dough Dough edible cookie dough, and pink and blue vanilla ice cream.

Pizza Inn has added two "fiesta" pizzas featured on the buffet available through June 23. The taco pizza has taco meat, lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese; the chicken fajita pizza has picante sauce, mozzarella, chicken, onion, green pepper, tomato, cheddar cheese, and black olives.

Off the Cuff, the new-ish restaurant-bar in Deep Ellum, has introduced a burger of the month for May. Called a Pizza Burger, it consists of a brisket and ground beef patty, stuffed with mozzarella and cured pepperoni, topped with serrano marinara, pesto, and arugula on a brioche bun, served upside down and topped with mozzarella and cured pepperoni to give it a pizza look on top.

SusieCakes has new seasonal treats available May 24-27 that include berry vanilla cake, frosted sugar cookies, cupcakes, banana cream pie, and blueberry crumble pie.

Ultra-buzzy Dallas team fires up new restaurant Flamant in Plano

    Flamant

    Flamant

Opening day is here for Flamant, a new concept from an award-winning restaurant family that will open at the Boardwalk at Granite Park, at 5880 SH-121 #103b on June 10.

Flamant is described as a European live fire cocktail bar and bistro that's a sibling to Rye and Apothecary on Greenville Avenue, from restaurant team Tanner Agar (CEO and creative director) and executive chef Taylor Rause.

The duo has earned multiple accolades including a "Recommended" status in the 2024 Michelin Guide Texas.

The food at Flamant is designed to be a little more familiar than the ultra-creative menus at Apothecary and Rye — rooted in the culinary traditions of Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy, with food cooked over an open flame.

    Menu items include

    • Faux Gras — a vegan foie gras made from cashews, with blackberry, preserved lemons, and served with wood fired bread
    • Scallop Crudo, with scallops, spirulina, lemon, oil, Italian liqueur, notable because the spirulina turns the broth ocean-blue
    • Ricotta Dip — a ricotta spread accompanied by ricotta shells for "dipping"
    • Ragu Bianco featuring gnocchi in pork ragu
    • Wood Fired Wagyu Burger with chuck, cheek, and ribeye, topped with fontina, Spanish tomatoes, garlic whip and chive

Dessert includes Crème Brûlée Cheesecake with crème fraîche cheesecake, red wine caramel, and duck fat cookie crumble; and Chocolate Cake with hazelnut & almond meringue, chocolate mousse, and chocolate glaze.

Drinks include the Salt & Pepperoncini (pepperoncini and herbal French liqueur margarita), espresso martinis plural, a Sgroppino (engine organic gin, limoncello, prosecco float), and the Vespa (vesper martini with charred lemon and bombay murcia lemon gin).

The space seats 52 inside and 68 on the patio and includes velvet banquettes, an open kitchen, and a large red stone bar top. Diners can gaze at the Picasso-esque 315-square-foot mural by local artist Jennifer Kindert or watch the live fire through the open kitchen.

Agar says in a statement that "coming back to North Dallas is exciting for us as we've missed being a part of this community since the fire at our McKinney restaurant in 2022."

"For me Flamant is especially exciting as it allows me to revisit the flavors of my time working in both Spain and France as a young chef," Agar says. "Like my favorite restaurants from there, we've created a menu that's more affordable and familiar than Rye and Apothecary while still being rooted in the creativity, passion, and warm hospitality that define our company. With live fire cooking, cocktails, and lively energy, we've built a place where a European vacation can happen everyday."
