The 2020 State Fair of Texas may be canceled but there is no shortage of fried food going around, from corny dog pop-ups to Dallas restaurants adding greasy treats to their menus.
This trend started in August, and now there are new opportunities to get your fair on.
Corny Dogs + chicken?
From September 1-October 25, State Fair of Texas staple Fletcher's Original Corny Dogs will be served at 187 Golden Chick locations in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Finally, a reason to go to a Golden Chick.
In a statement, Golden Chick president Jim Stevens does verbal somersaults to explain why this partnership "makes perfect sense."
"While we serve Original Golden Tenders, Fletcher's is the creator of the Original Corny Dog, and what better way to make the two widely accessible than to serve them both at our restaurants and in our drive-thrus," Stevens says.
Golden Chick will be in charge of making the corny dogs, which will be $5. The Original is the only version they'll be serving.
Corny dog pop-ups
If you still can't handle going to Golden Chick, you can find Fletcher's at a series of pop-ups around town scheduled throughout September and October.
Fletcher's will also participate in the State Fair Drive-Thru event taking place weekends from September 25-October 18.
Statler Dallas fair fest
The Statler hotel in downtown Dallas is going all in on the State Fair with a fair-inspired installation as well as a menu of fair-inspired food.
Called Fair Play at the Statler, it's a property-wide interactive experience that includes:
- fair-inspired menus for DFW Restaurant Week
- interactive fair-themed art installations
- sensory experiences in the Statler Ballroom
- food and gaming experience in the restaurant Scout
The event, which will run on weekends from September 11-20, will feature an Elvis butter sculpture and Cotton Candy Corral, kids' activities, games, food and drink tastings, and more.
State Fair menu items will include Hot Cheetos Crusted Fried Avocado, the El Monte Elvis Sandwich, and a Breakfast Corny Dog.
