Cake Boss treats Dallas to another Carlo's Bakery in its hottest suburb
Just like Santa Claus himself, chef Buddy Valastro, aka the "Cake Boss," is serving up Dallas a super sweet treat: a second branch of his famed Carlo's Bakery. The shop will open in Frisco, at Stonebriar Centre mall, by spring 2017, "or possibly late winter," a spokesperson says.
Carlo's is the famed New Jersey-based, family-owned bakery chain featured on the TLC hit show Cake Boss. It specializes in pastries, wedding cakes, and custom cakes.
Valastro has a colorful, larger-than-life personality and celebrity profile that has helped fuel a frenzy surrounding the bakery. Store openings attract mobs of fans who've watched him on TV. When the Dallas branch opened in March, it was met by long lines of customers, willing to wait hours to score pastries.
The bakery's signature item is its lobster tail, a flaky puffed pastry filled with French cream and a touch of Bailey’s Irish Cream. Other items include cookies, cakes, Danish, and cannolis, the crunchy fried shell filled with sweetened ricotta cheese. There's also a deconstructed version of the cannoli called cannoli chip and dip, with a tub of the sweet filling surrounded by sweet fried chips.
Holiday treats include special cakes and cookies filled with jam.
The company is definitely in growth mode, with Valastro said to be scouting for a location in Chicago in July; there are already branches in Orlando, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Connecticut, and New York, along with six branches in its home state of New Jersey.
Texas is high on the list; in addition to Frisco, the brand will open a bakery in northeast Houston in spring 2017.
