Birdie's and its glorious patio to open in former Luby's Dallas space
A location in the Lakewood Dallas area that was long home to a Luby's has a new tenant: Called Birdie’s Eastside, it's a bar and grill with a big outdoor space and it will open on December 13.
Birdie's is from Jon Alexis (TJ’s Seafood Market & Grill, Malibu Poke, Escondido Tex Mex, Ramble Room), who purchased the 2+ acre property 6221 E. Mockingbird Ln. near Abrams.
"We’ve acquired an important property in the heart of East Dallas. Having been connected to East Dallas for decades, we can’t wait to serve this incredible neighborhood," Alexis says.
The outdoor space is a big driver, consisting of a 3,500-square-foot patio with oversized furniture designed for large groups; four newly planted live oak trees; and an open space for kids to play.
The main dining room seats 150 in cozy booths with funky Texas art, cathedral ceilings, and reclaimed wood beams. There are two bars: an adjoining indoor/outdoor bar with backlit custom Mexican tile, and a second cocktail bar with a larger selection of local beer, whiskeys, and tequilas, plus a private room with an adjoining patio.

They can say that but there will never be anything more refreshing than a frosé. Plus a wide selection of margaritas from Escondido Tex Mex, plus a new Rocks & Frozen Blood Orange. Plus a menu of “Spritzies” such as Aperol, Hugo Mint, and Sparkling Mezcal Paloma Plus a funky martini list with Pickle Martinis to a Filthy featuring bacon-stuffed olives.
Design draws from Texas history and Marfa, with vintage kayaks and lake maps on the walls, hand-drawn dogs in cowboy hats, and a scene of aliens landing at the Granada Theater.
