Premium ice cream chain Bruster's churns new Dallas-area store in Richardson
A Pittsburgh-based ice cream chain is expanding its DFW footprint: Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, founded in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania, in 1989 by an actual guy named Bruce, is celebrating the grand opening of a location in Richardson, at 710 W. Renner Rd. #202, in a Tom Thumb shopping center at the intersection of Custer Parkway.
It's the third shop in the DFW area, joining locations in McKinney and Frisco; there are also four locations in the Houston area and one in Austin. Richardson actually opened in March, but the company is just now throwing a grand opening as an entree to the summer.
According to a release, company founder Bruce Reed started the concept as a complement to his family's carhop restaurant Jerry’s Curb Service, and became the neighborhood’s favorite ice cream store. They started franchising in 1993. There are nearly 200 independently owned locations in 22 states and Guyana.
They offer at least 24 ever-changing flavors from a bank of 150 recipes of premium, handcrafted ice cream, yogurt, Italian ice, and sorbet, ranging from the classic van-choc-straw to innovative options such as Dark Chocolate Graham Crunch and Ultimate Peanut Butter Oreo.
They make the ice cream daily, and flavors change from day to day and store to store, but Richardson's lineup includes treats such as:
- Butterscotch ripple - vanilla ice cream with butterscotch ribbons
- Banana chocolate chip - banana ice cream and chocolate flakes
- Almond chocolate coconut - chocolate and coconut ice cream swirl, studded with almonds
- Chocolate mudslide - Hershey’s Special Dark ice cream with marshmallow swirl, Oreo cookie chunks, and brownie bites
- Cold brew brownie - coffee ice cream with fudge ripple and brownie bites
This might seem like a lot of description, but come on, look at those flavors, they're amazing.
In addition, they have a full line of vegan oat-milk flavors to cater to customers seeking premium dairy-free options in 14 flavors such as peach melba, chocolate raspberry truffle, and white raspberry truffle.
They also do sundaes, splits, cakes, pies, shakes, and "blasts," which another chain might call blizzards.
The grand opening celebration will take place all through Memorial Day weekend, May 24-27, and will feature ice cream samplings of flavors including May's limited-time offerings Caramel Brownie Batter and Strawberry Shortcake, plus giveaways and the chance to win free ice cream for a year.
